Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection specialist – psychosocial support who is to be responsible to support the quality of DRC psychosocial activities that are implemented as a part of an integrated comprehensive protection program in Libya. The position will provide technical guidance to DRC protection staff and develop the PSS approach for DRC Libya. It will be based in Tripoli, covering DRC programming in both Tripolitaia and Benghazi.

About the job

Your main duties and responsibilities will be as follows. Further detail will be available in the job description:

• In coordination with the Protection coordinator develop DRC’s PSS strategic direction in Libya, including by developing a PSS strategic plan
• Conduct a Mental Health, and Psychosocial needs assessment, lead the development/contextualisation of assessment and analysis tools based on international standards
• Develop PSS technical guidance as requested by the Protection coordinator
• Provide continual technical support and monitoring of psychosocial support program activities to ensure applicability of quality standards.
• Provide supervision to protection staff on community psychosocial support interventions inclusive of ongoing capacity building, professional development and technical support.
• Promote the effective use of and compliance with relevant tools, forms, SOPs etc. so as to ensure program quality and impact.
• Responsible for collating information and reporting progress and challenges to Protection and Project manager and Protection coordinator
• In coordination with the Protection manager, Project manager and Protection Coordinator, adjust program implementation based on needs and context.
• Develop capacity building strategies for the protection team at the field level
• Support the production of comprehensive, quality and timely reports for donors and humanitarian coordination forums on program activities
• In coordination with the Protection coordinator represent DRC in the MHPSS technical working group meeting.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with networks and other stakeholders working on MHPSS to ensure linkages and alignment for DRC programming

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have the following:

Required

• Fluency in written and spoken English
• University degree, Master’s preferred, in psychology or mental health counseling
• At least 3 years’ experience in the fields of working for international or national humanitarian organizations in complex conflict or post-confict settings, in the area of Mental health and psychosocial support
• Experience in capacity building of staff including training and supervision.
• Knowledge of and experience in using established inter-agency standards and guidelines in MHPSS and child protection, such as the IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings, the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, Inter-agency Guidelines on Separated and Unaccompanied Children and IASC Guidelines in Emergencies.
• Excellent technical knowledge of protection standards and principles and demonstrated capacity to develop effective responses to identified psychosocial needs protection needs and in accordance with the relevant frameworks
• Commitment to integrate gender, conflict sensitivity, and accountability into programming

Desirable

• Knowledge of Arabic as an asset

• Previous experience working in context of mixed migration flows and internal displacement with good knowledge of the protection issues affecting people in a situation of forced displacement or migration

• Demonstrate ability in conceptual, analytical and critical thinking with the ability to contribute to programmatic or advocacy strategies towards greater quality and impact
• Ability to work flexibly in a diverse team; with proven leadership skills
