THE ROLE ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Executive Board is WFP's supreme governing body comprising 36 States Members of the United Nations or Member Nations of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Board provides intergovernmental support, policy direction and supervision of the activities of WFP.

The Executive Board Secretariat (EBS) is the interface between WFP's Executive Board Members and Observers, collectively known as the WFP Membership, and WFP management. Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, the Board Secretariat facilitates the interaction between the Executive Board and WFP Management; provides governance services to the Board and its Bureau and conducts annual analysis on the performance and support provided in completing the programme of work of the Board. It manages the relationship between the Executive Board and other governing bodies in Rome and New York; fosters exchange of information with Permanent Representations in Rome; collaborates with other Rome-based organizations in fields related to governance, conference, and language services; facilitates the work of the Independent Oversight Advisory Committee (IOAC).

The EBS Digital Governance Services are delivered seamlessly through the Executive Board Website which consists of several digital products to support the Executive Board Services. These products as well as new ones are continuously improved and need to be integrated across all EBS processes and platforms and are part of the greater Digital Transformation Portfolio that is also managed by EBSD. The Digital Transformation roadmap is expected to last 4-6 years.

The position reports to the Executive Board Head of Digital Governance Services (EBSD) who is the Product Manager and provides product vision, content strategy and is ultimately accountable for all products. The Project Coordinator and Product Owner will be delegated to coordinate the projects that are pertinent to the Executive Board Website and related Content Management applications. The position will also be delegated the aspects of Product Ownership regarding product development, technical maintenance and will contribute to the overall product vision, content strategy, planning, and delivery. EBSD products are for specialized limited audiences, and subsequently have adopted a simplified agile methodology based on SCRUM running a combination of Sprints and Kanban as needed.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

As Project Coordinator & Product Owner:

  • Perform the role of Product Owner: Develop and explicitly communicate the Product Goal; Gather and validate requirements following a Customer-Centric design.

  • Ensure that the Product Backlog is transparent, visible, and understood; Communicate requirements inwards to the Product Team.

  • Decompose high-level requirements; Create and clearly communicate Product Backlog Items (PBI), partnering closely with Stakeholders and the Product Team to ensure everyone understands the items in the backlog.

  • Determine whether PBIs were satisfactorily delivered and Give the Product Team clear guidance on which features to deliver next.

  • Take care of Backlog Grooming: regularly review items on the backlog to ensure the backlog contains the appropriate items, that they are prioritized, and that the items at the top of the backlog are ready for delivery.

  • Participate in the Sprint Planning session; a team planning meeting that determines what to complete in the coming Sprint.

  • Provide guidance to vendors concerning the submission of consumer reports and invoices.

As Web Editor & Content Producer:

Support the Web Content & Information Manager in:

  • Maintaining the EBS Style & CMS guidelines.

  • Support the classification of EB documents and publication of CSPs as requested.

  • Monitor the content of the website by reviewing constantly current information published and making sure all pages are translated into four languages, accurate and up to date, and clear and according to guidelines.

  • Plan the creation and delivery of new content to the EB public website by proactively proposing new content and managing all the images for the website including photo galleries, as well as pages of the “news”, “about” and “activities” sections.

  • Collaborate and liaise with other web contributors or EBS focal points for specific subjects.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY REQUIREMENTS

Education:

You have:

  • A university degree in Language, Linguistics, Literature, Communications, Government, Politics & Policy, History, International Affairs, Social Sciences, or similar relevant field.

Experience:

You have:

  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in Project Coordination, Product Ownership, Editing Websites and using Content Management Systems in particular Drupal. Experience in working in high-level stakeholder environments for a multicultural audience.

Language:

You have:

Fluency (level C) in the English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language)

MORE ABOUT YOU

  • Experience in comparing and analysing data to identify errors and discrepancies and proactively elaborate and propose solutions for enhancements or to solve issues identified.

  • Knowledge of Agile Product Development.

  • Knowledge of Project Management process.

  • Experience in content and media production for the web.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

A Limited Fixed-Term Appointment (LFT) position is a non-mobile staff appointment in the international professional category for a limited period of up to 2 years.

WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in line with ICSC standards (http://icsc.un.org) including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, visa, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days’ annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, a pension plan, and medical insurance.

The selected candidate will be required to relocate to Rome, Italy to take up this assignment.
