We are currently seeking to fill an intern position in the Corporate Planning and Performance (CPP) Division, based in Rome, Italy.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION

The Corporate Planning and Performance (CPP) Division establishes standards, products, and services to ensure transparent and accountable planning, budgeting, and performance management function in WFP. Serving internal and external clients and stakeholders, the Division provides critical support to oversight and decision-making, driving the effective and efficient implementation of WFPs mandate. Under the direction of the CFO & Deputy Executive Director Management, CPP works across the organization to ensure effective and efficient processes across the planning, budget and performance cycle (planning, budgeting, implementation oversight, and reporting). The Division strives to deliver simple, clear, and coherent planning to reporting services and products to its clients.

The CPPG Branch of CPP leads the coordination of corporate planning, budget and reports processes while supporting policy development and governance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the OIM & Performance Reports Analyst in CPPG, the candidate may perform the following duties:

  • Assist with methodological updates and testing for the 2023 Annual Performance Report (APR)
  • Contribute to data querying and linking of data in order to add data slicing and improve sub-group analysis, and identification of other meaningful groupings through which to analyze performance
  • Assist in preparing statistical analysis of relationships between outcome and output performance data
  • Assist in the conceptualization and development of additional data quality checks or flags, and the efficiency of data preparation processes

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university;
  • University course attendance in the past 12 months.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Intermediate (or higher) knowledge with database or programming languages (e.g. SQL, Python, R), and intermediate (or higher) knowledge of MS Office Suite (in particular, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Experience professionally or academically with self-service analytics and data visualization applications (e.g., MS PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau or similar), or business intelligence tools (e.g., SAP Business Objects) is desirable
  • Familiarity with statistical methods and monitoring and evaluation is desirable
  • Interest in exploring ways to creatively link data to derive insights and tell stories and automate such processes to do so in a timely and efficient way is essential
  • Interest in applied analytics, business intelligence, statistics, or related area is desirable
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills are essential
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is essential
  • Ability to communicate complicated topics to non-experts and cross-functional team members and liaise with disparate teams within WFP
  • Ability to be flexible, prioritize, and manage multiple activities

WORKING LANGUAGES

  • Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C).
  • Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable

Under the direct supervision of the CPPG OIM & Performance Reports Analyst

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

  • Understand WFP’s approach to analyzing and reporting on its performance, including familiarity with the data, systems, and processes powering it
  • Possess performance analysis and corporate reporting skills
  • Interpersonal skills required for working in a dynamic team, assisting with internal and external requests, and maneuvering in a large UN organization
  • Have in their portfolio of completed tasks tools, dashboards, processes, concept notes or other evidence of concrete accomplishments from the duration of the internship

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
