Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat

hunger. Our goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives.

The main aim of the FAO country office, which is headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist government to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

The Project/Communications Assistant will be assigned to the project “Enhancing the Visibility of FAO-Turkey Partnership Programmes (FTPP II and FTFP) (GCP/SEC/020/TUR)” implemented by FAO Turkey and will perform a wide range of communication, operational, administrative, and financial functions in support of the delivery of the project results.

Reporting Lines

The Project/Communications Assistant will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia and FAO Representative in Turkey and direct supervision of the FAO Turkey Programme Officer, the Project/Communications Assistant will assist in the implementation of the project working under the technical guidance of the REU Communication Officer for Europe and Central Asia, and in close collaboration and day-to-day coordination with the project’s Communication Specialist/Project Manager, and in close collaboration with the Liaison Officer for the FAO-Turkey Partnership Programme on Food and Agriculture (FTPP II) and National Programme Coordinator of the FAO-Turkey Forestry Partnership Programme (FTFP), and in accordance with prevailing FAO Corporate Communications policies and practices.

Tasks and responsibilities

The Project/Communication Assistant will perform the following tasks:

  • Support the project team for the day-to-day activities in the implementation of the project;
  • Draft letters, prepare periodic meeting notes, and organize trainings, workshops and related events;
  • Support the project team closely following the timely and effective implementation of the Strategy and Action Plans developed;
  • Support the project team in the development of printed information and advocacy materials about the Partnership Programmes as a whole, including booklets, factsheets and six-monthly newsletters in accordance with the project document and emerging needs;
  • Support the Communication Specialist in the development of promotional and feature videos for the Partnership Programmes;
  • Support the project team in the development of promotional items such as banners, caps, t-shirts, posters, tote bags, notebooks etc.;
  • Support the Communication Specialist and the project team in updating the FAO’s webpage dedicated to the Partnership Programmes;
  • Support the Communication Specialist in implementing the media outreach plan;
  • Monitor and record published information and media coverage;
  • Perform other related activities.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in journalism, communication, public relations or related discipline;
  • Three years of relevant experience in office support work and in media relations and communications;
  • An excellent command of English and Turkish is essential
  • Good knowledge of the MS Office applications, Internet and office technology equipment;
  • National of Turkey.
