The island nation of Vanuatu is located in Oceania, near the South Pacific Ocean. Known for its touristy capital, Port Vila, it is an archipelago nation with approximately 80 islands. As in many developing nations, there are no black and white answers to the issues of living conditions. Vanuatu has an estimated population of 299,882 people. The majority of the islands are not close together, and the unpredictable weather and dangerous waters make travel between them difficult. This makes it difficult for people outside Port Vila to have access to vital places, such as hospitals. The destruction of these homes can be caused by certain natural disasters, such as tornadoes. 90 percent of Vanuatu’s buildings were destroyed, including most homes. Many people were left homeless as a result of this natural disaster. Agriculture is the main source of income. In Vanuatu, the majority of the population makes a living by farming.
