WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that was established in 7 April 1948 and whose objective is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health WHO’s primary role is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system. WHO’s main areas of work are health systems; health through the life-course; noncommunicable and communicable diseases; preparedness, surveillance, and response; and corporate services.

The purpose of this position is to support the Country office in working in pharmaceutical and National regulatory areas as well as support the technology transfer and increasing of local pharmaceutical production capacity in collaboration with all partners

Under the direct supervision of the Public Health Specialist and the overall guidance of the WHO Representative, the International Volunteer- Pharmaceutical Support Officer will:

• Support in all pharmaceutical related research and operational activities at WCO under supervision of relevant technical officers; (e.g): Strengthening Health systems under the umbrella of universal health coverage, health emergencies, Communicable & non-communicable diseases control, Surveillance, areas related to essential medicines, medical technologies management and medical devices …etc in alliance with WHO standards and guidelines • Coordinate activities with different stakeholders & facilitate communication between WCO & relevant focal points at MoH and NRA and facilitate smooth projects information flow on activities between NRA and other involved national institutions and partners. • Support convening activities related to QC, and QA • Support national authorities for the capacity needed for technology transfer and local pharmaceutical production capacity
• Ensure achievement of the agreed tasks and targets. • Preparation of draft for materials such as brochures, fact sheets, presentations and press releases that are used to spread information related to a specific health issue. • Carrying out desktop research, using a range of methods and sources of data. • Support in data management and preliminary data analysis • Support in preliminary drafting of any updates in relevant national guidelines, reports, materials and tools related to research support. • Regular documenting and archiving of meeting minutes, official letters & requests and reports to ensure alignment of the program activities with the different projects’ objectives.

Combination of training and experience in National regulatory areas and pharmaceutical production Post graduate degree and experience in quality-of-care auditing is desirable. • Preferably had an experience in contributing in community development services or activities • Preferably assisted in previous community surveys and research activities • Shows interest in fieldwork. • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills. • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness;

Muscat, the capital, is a peaceful city with over two million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily-available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Muscat. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Muscat is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Muscat have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Muscat is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Oman is a family duty station.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.
