Office/Unit/Project Description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) has a mandate to leverage the role of the private sector in development. The IICPSD was established in Istanbul, Turkey on the basis of the Partnership Framework Agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the United Nations Development Program in March 2011. The center is one of the six global thematic centers of UNDP, advocating and facilitating the contribution of the private sector to human development and inclusive growth.

The SDG AI Lab is a joint initiative of UNDP Bureau of Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) teams and hosted under UNDP IICPSD. The Lab has a mission to harness the potential of frontier technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for sustainable development. SDG AI Lab provides research, development, and advisory services in the areas of frontier technologies and sustainable development. As well, the Lab supports UNDP’s internal capacity strengthening efforts for the increasing demand for digital solutions. To bridge the talent gap in the use of frontier technologies in development contexts, the Lab mobilizes volunteer data scientists, connecting UNDP teams and highly skilled data scientists to address development challenges with digital solutions.

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the IICPSD’s Technical Specialist, the Partnerships Analyst will provide the overall coordination support to SDG AI Lab activities. The Analyst will also support resource mobilization efforts and partnerships building.

Institutional Arrangement

The Partnerships and Coordination Analyst will be working under the guidance of and reporting directly to the UNDP IICPSD Technical Specialist.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

1) Supporting resource mobilization and partnership efforts:

  • Identifying potential funding partners at the global, regional and country-levels, including donor governments, private sector, and foundations.
  • Drafting concept notes, presentations, pitch decks, donor progress reports and other materials.
  • Supporting partnerships and coordinating communications with potential and existing donors as well as with other relevant actors, including clients.
  • Commissioning and coordinating the due diligence and partnerships documentation processes for new partners.
  • Internally engaging with other relevant actors within UNDP, including the SFH, UNV, Country Offices, and others on partnerships and resource mobilization, as needed.

2) Supporting SDG AI Lab’s communications, outreach and advocacy strategies

  • Conducting communications needs assessments and risk analysis.
  • Identifying communications opportunities and designing communications materials.
  • Coordinating, adapting and implementing corporate communications and advocacy strategies and efforts.
  • Managing SDG AI Lab social media pages and other communications tools.
  • Planning and organizing outreach events such as Demo Days and others.

3) Coordinating Volunteer Data Scientists initiative

  • Developing and implementing volunteer engagement strategy.
  • Coordinating volunteers onboarding, offboarding and community events.
  • Strengthening SDG AI Lab Volunteer Developers community through organizing team building and capacity strengthening activities.
  • Supporting the recruitment and coordination of volunteers.

Performing other duties related to this assignment as may be required by the Supervisor.

  • Master’s degree in economics, management, business administration, international development, international relations, political science, economic development, or related field is required

  • Proven experience in drafting the concept notes, outcome reporting, and other written communication for partnerships management is required.
  • Strong familiarity with innovation, digital transformation and frontier technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and others in the context of SDGs is required.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and handling of web-based management systems (i.e. ERP, Atlas, PeopleSoft programmes) is required.

Desired additional skills

  • Experience in recruiting and onboarding of volunteers as well as building volunteer communities is a distinct advantage.
  • Hands-on experience on project management matters and event coordination is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in communications, strategic outreach and media visibility is an asset.
  • Experience with UNDP, particularly in supporting resource mobilization, due diligence and partnership formalization processes is desirable.
  • Experience working with JIRA is an advantage.

Required Language(s) (at working level)

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of another UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic or Russian) will be an advantage.
