This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

This UN Volunteer assignment is part of UNV’s disability inclusion strategy within the Regional Office (RO) for Europe and Central Asia. UNV RO seeks to 1) Provide opportunities for persons with disabilities to serve as UN Volunteers; 2) Enable UN partners to expand diversity and inclusion of persons with disabilities in their workforce worldwide; 3) Build a talent pipeline of qualified professionals with disabilities who can contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at national and global levels, with focus on national capacity.

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Manager, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Liaising with UN Country Teams in the Europe and Central Asia region to promote UN Volunteer assignments with People living with Disabilities in line with each UNCT Disability Inclusion Strategy. • Developing targeted regional and country level targeted offers to position UNV as a partner of choice to empower people living with disabilities in UN programmes. • Contributing the development of concept notes and offers related to diversity and inclusion, identifying gaps and integrating perspectives from multiple stakeholders. • Lead and conduct UNV-led outreach efforts in partnership with disability inclusion focal points in UN entities for empowerment, skills-building, innovative thinking and participation of youth with disabilities in decision-making. • Identify capacity gaps and support capacity development for increased knowledge and understanding on disability inclusive programming at the country offices and regional level. • Work in partnerships with local civil society organizations to strengthen the institutional and operational capacity of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) (legalization, organization, resource mobilization, advocacy). • Identify other critical partners, promote awareness and build capacity of partners, and actively facilitates effective collaboration within the UN family on disability programming. • Supporting to gather the analysis to understand barriers towards diversity, equity, and inclusion — including in programmes that seek to deliver equitable services. • Identifying the tools (Power BI, UVP, Web based reports etc..) and developing metrics and evaluation processes to assess the effectiveness of person with disability initiatives; and identifying and mapping current and potential programmatic entry points. • Supporting the RO team in searching and analyzing best practices and stays up-to-date on what other UNV offices and external organizations are doing in the areas relevant to diversity, equity and inclusion, and what levels of success the various program aspects are reaching. • Providing support to the talent outreach efforts, in identifying talent sources for underrepresented groups. Supporting the talent acquisition team on ensuring sourcing materials such as advertisements are accessible to everyone and provide suggestions on how to improve. • Participating, as requested, in relevant inter-agency meetings to seize opportunities for person with disability volunteer mobilization including integrating UN volunteers with disabilities in UN-led projects at the design stage. • Assisting in organizing learning sessions/workshops (such as for Global Disability Summit) and events on persons with disabilities with Learning Team and other respective teams. Developing, sourcing, and circulating creative and interactive content that invites stakeholders wide dialogue and continuous learning. • Providing support to interact with newly deployed persons with disability UN Volunteers to ensure successful settlement and integration with host institutions. Preparing briefing packs and arranging orientation/security briefings for newly recruited disabled UN Volunteers. Ensuring newly recruited UN Volunteers have access to tools and systems required to perform their tasks. • Performing other duties and responsibilities which are within the expertise and experience required to achieve the UNV regional office priorities on disability inclusion.

disability inclusion together with the knowledge of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its guiding principles of a Human Rights Based Approach, disability inclusion, gender equality and Leave no One Behind. • Familiarity with data management and data analysis. • Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders in - and outside the UN System such as national and local institutions, organizations of the civil society, etc. • Knowledge of and development programme experience in disability inclusion; and community participation and development. • Previous experience/strong motivation to work on the empowerment of vulnerable persons. • Analysis and communication skills – use of Excel, Power Point; Word.

The UN Volunteer assignment is based in Istanbul and UN Volunteer is responsible for arranging her/his own housing and other living essentials. Summary of National UN Volunteers (Specialist) entitlements: • Volunteer Living Allowance (per month): USD 1360 (paid in local currency) • Entry lump sum (one-time payment): USD 400 • Exit allowance: USD 113 per contract service month (when successful completion of the assignment) • Health, dental, life and disability insurance: Cigna Private Insurance (including eligible dependents) As per UN’s diplomatic mission status, it is not included in National Security Institution’s (SGK) system but can be only initiated on private basis. • Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month • Free access to different learning platforms and UNV network
