The UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and Arab Region (the “Centre”), Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) serves as a regional hub and center of excellence in the areas of human rights training, education, and documentation. It contributes to the implementation of OHCHR’s mandate in the region by: -Strengthening the application of human rights norms, skills, and values in the region through education, training, and documentation; -Strengthening the effectiveness of human rights education and training by OHCHR, UN partners, and regional and national actors through the application and dissemination of best-practice methodologies; -Facilitating knowledge management in OHCHR’s key areas of engagement in the region.

The UNV assignment will support the Centre in implementing its work plan on time and within budget.

National UN Specialist Volunteers in Qatar are entitled to: - Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) at the amount of QAR 13,339; - Annual and learning leaves; - Free life and medical insurance; and - Free access to different learning platforms.

Within the delegated authority and under the overall supervision of the Head of Centre and the direct supervision of the Administrative Associate, the National UNV Operations Assistant supports the Office operations by performing a variety of standard administrative processes ensuring high quality and accuracy of work. The Operations Assistant promotes a client, quality, and results-oriented approach. The Operations Assistant works in close collaboration with the programme and projects staff and the administrative/operations team to ensure consistent service delivery.

Under the direct supervision of Administrative Associate, the National UNV Operations Assistant will:

Operations Assistant role: 1. Process requests for visas, residencies and similar processes with Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Ministry of Interior (MoI) and other relevant entities.

  1. Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitate visa and customs formalities arrangement when required;

  2. Receipt of shipments, customs clearance arrangements, preparation of documents and arrangements for shipment with due regard to routine customs regulations and formalities;

  3. Assist in maintaining a filing system for correspondences in coordination with the Administrative Associate, including managing the incoming correspondences through fax, email, post office, and by hand and delivering and collecting mail, documents and other items;

  4. Monitor and maintain office stationery supplies including maintenance of stock list of stationary, cleaning supplies and similar materials; distribution of stationery and keeping a log of distribution as required;

  5. Maintain files and records relevant to office premises and related maintenance.

  6. Maintain records of the publication list and track incoming and outgoing publications.

  7. Assist in preparation of routine correspondence, faxes, memoranda as needed in support of the operations and activities of the Centre.

  8. Makes minor purchases and collects urgently required goods from local suppliers on demand.

  9. Provide logistical and administrative assistance in support of the implementation of the Centre’s activities/processes.

Driving role :

  1. Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, OHCHR Head of the Centre/Staff, other high-ranking officials and visitors in connection with their official duties.

  2. Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, daily milage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, and provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

  3. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, water, battery, car washing, etc.

  4. Ensures the availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle;

  5. Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations and local requirements are adhered to in case of involvement in accidents.

  6. Ensures that the vehicle is properly kept (in the garage or on the secured car park) during non-working hours.

• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

•Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);

•Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; •Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
•Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; •Assst with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; •Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

This position is based in Doha, Qatar. Doha provides for an interesting and enriching environment, but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness, as well as more stamina and commitment than elsewhere to make life comfortable and affordable. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials
