You have:

  • Education in Nutrition, Health, biostatistics, epidemiology, social science, environmental health, or prevention of chronic and infectious disease.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in nutrition programming or related fields.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.), and familiarity with database management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to apply strategic thinking towards nutrition interventions.
  • Capacity to innovate and improve nutrition programs.

The United Nations World Food Programme DRC is looking for the expertise of a Nutrition Officer to provide technical support to its activities in the Grand Kasai. WFP provides a nutrition response in the Grand Kasai due to the high levels of food insecurity and malnutrition prevalence in this zone. About 22.3% of its population 4.3 million are under IPC 3 with Global Acute Malnutrition estimated at 11% and chronic malnutrition at 47 % in the Garand Kasai follwijng the 2023 SMART survey. WFP’s response aims both at supporting the treatment and management practice, prevention and addressing some root causes with nutrition sensitive activites and taillored SBCC messaging. Working in close collaboration with the Ministry of public health, UNICEF, PRONANUT, PNLS, national and international NGOs. This position is in the Area office of Kananga, DRC, and report to the Head of Area Office and technically to the Head of Nutrition at CO level.
The incumbent is expected to provide technical support in the designing and the implementation of the nutrition intervention in Kananga Area Office (Great Kasai) with oversight to Tshikapa.

• Contribute to the development of nutrition projects and activities, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider nutrition policies and guidance. • Provide project management support to specific and defined nutrition projects and activities, ensuring a co-ordinated approach with wider programmes/projects that complies with WFP standards and procedures. • Support the development and co-ordinate data gathering and monitoring/assessment systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained. • Track and analyse data to provide input into reporting activities and contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on nutrition activities that enables informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders. • Liaise with implementing partners (internal and external) to monitor ongoing projects, ensuring effective collaboration, timeliness and efficiency, and highlight potential risks to project delivery. • Support the identification of potential partners and partnership negotiations to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to meeting nutrition needs. • Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners and national government to prepare for and respond to nutrition needs for example the production and review of training materials. • Guide more junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with more complex analysis and queries. • Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs. • Other as required

The Kananga Area Office is accessible from Kinshasa by a 2hrs UNHAS flight. The City of Kananga has all basic amenities related to housing, electricity, water, supper market and shops. The deterioration of roads complicates travel and humanitarian interventions, particularly in rural areas. The overall security situation is relatively calm but unpredictable, with a medium residual risk (3). Some cases of criminality common in cities (theft, pick pocketing) have been reported. Traditional and land disputes remain a source of instability in several territories, particularly in Eastern and Central Kasai. Local authorities and armed forces encourage citizen cooperation to prevent any escalation. Compliance with UN security measures is strongly recommended.
