The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was established by Security Council resolution 2100 of 25 April 2013 to support political processes in the country and to carry out a number of security-related tasks. The Mission has been asked to support the transitional authorities of Mali in the stabilization of the country and implementation of the transitional roadmap, focusing on major population centres and lines of communication, protecting civilians, human rights monitoring, the creation of conditions for the provision of humanitarian assistance and the return of displaced persons, the extension of State authority and the preparation of free, inclusive and peaceful elections

Under the direct supervision of Chief Movement Control within the delegation of authority, the UNV Movement Control Assistant will undertake the following tasks within the Movement Control Section, Bamako:

Assist with determining the most efficient and cost–effective modes of transportation for passengers and cargo (including dangerous goods requiring special handling) within and/or outside a field mission.
Receives customer requests through Movement of Personnel (MOP) and Cargo Movement Request (CMR) Forms, for transportation of passengers and cargo (including dangerous goods requiring special handling) within and/or outside a field mission.
Coordinates required transportation activities with the Aviation, Transport and Riverine Units/Sections and/or commercial transportation service providers.
Develops air cargo loads.
Assures dangerous goods are transported in accordance with applicable international Dangerous Goods Regulations.
Plans, organizes, coordinates, and prioritizes assigned tasks.
Coordinates the Daily Flight Schedule with the Mission Air Operations Centre to meet cargo requirements as well as non-scheduled mission flights.
Liaises with other UN units/section, non-government and government organizations and intergovernmental agencies on immigration and custom matters.
Assist and analysing projected passenger and cargo flows to estimate required resources.
Process Special Flight Requests for movement of passengers and cargo that cannot be accommodated on regular scheduled flights.
Ensure safe, efficient, and economical movement support is provided to meet operational and administrative requirements of the mission.
Records statistical data on the movement of passengers and cargo (including dangerous goods requiring special handling) within and /or outside a field mission.
Receives excess personal luggage and cargo (including dangerous goods requiring special handling) from customers.

At least three (3) years of progressive experience in movement control, multi-modal transportation, airline operations, logistics management or a related field. Working knowledge of English (additional knowledge of French language is desirable but not a condition

Bamako is a non-family duty station with a difficult security and working environment. Mali is a non-family duty station. Living conditions are acceptable in Bamako, but security instructions need to be strictly complied with. Adequate housing is available for rent at US$ 500-1500 per month. The national currency is the Franc CFA (September 2020 exchange rate was 1 US$ = 595 FCFA). Visa credit cards are accepted in some hotels and larger shops. Mali is a country prone to malaria, so mosquito nets are highly recommended. Basic medicines are available from pharmacies, but provision needs to be made for specialized medication.

Security recommendations from the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) must be followed by all UN Staff in the course of their assignments in Mali.

For the sake of rewarding experience, UN volunteers in MINUSMA carry out their duties with flexibility, commitment, and a willingness to live and work in challenging conditions including heat and limited water and electricity supply.
