This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

WHO Country Office was established in Prague in 1992 to assist Czechia in achieving its main public health priorities and to engage the country in global public health. The priorities for the Country Office are set out in the Biennial Plan of Cooperation between WHO/Europe and Czechia. The Office implements the plan in close collaboration with national institutions and international partner agencies.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Head of Department or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Logistics and Procurement Assistant will: • Identify the proper procurement method and potential suppliers in procurement. • Issue offer solicitations, communicate and negotiate with suppliers when needed. • Evaluate and analyse the received offers and recommend the awarded suppliers. • Prepare technical evaluation committee report when needed as requested by supervisor. • Communicate with specialized units to get the procurement technical/admin approvals. • Prepare all relevant procurement documents such as adjudication reports, analysis sheet with recommendations and checklist for review and approval of supervisor. • Create and process requisitions for both catalogue and non-catalogue items in an efficient manner, monitor status and ensure timely process of requests and delivery of goods and services. Initiate purchase order amendments when required, provide justification and upload supporting documents into the system. • Analyse and process requests for procurement of goods and services for different technical and emergency programmes in WHO internal systems, ensure adherence to the standard WHO guidelines on procurement, accuracy of information, completion of required supporting documents and check availability of funds. • Maintain and update the suppliers’ database including completion of the supplier evaluation forms for all suppliers contracted by WHO Prague office. • Generate procurement reports and briefings on the status of all transactions for the review of the supervisor. Initiate correspondence to verify data, answer queries, alert supervisor/technical units of any gaps in the transactions and recommend solutions. • Logistical arrangements for transporting and entering goods when needed. • Act as a backup for customs clearance and logistical arrangements for importing goods. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities;
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Czechia is an EU member country, with great accessibility from both land (train, car) and air. It has a mild climate, with warm summer and cold winter. All basic necessities like food, water and electricity are generally available. Medical, banking and communications infrastructures are easily available. The emergency services are easily reachable and reliable. The country is safe, with low levels of crime.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.

UN Volunteer entitlements and allowances: The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteer’s service.
