The Czech Republic Refugee Response office foresees approximately 40 programmatic visits and other official trips within the Czech Republic in 2024. The efficiency and efficacy of the support provided by the On-call Driver ensures the safe and timely transportation of staff, officials, and visitors to work assignments, thus supporting the efficient running of the office which in turn strengthens UNICEF’s capacity in delivering programmes for the most vulnerable women and children in the Czech Republic.

The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the Head of Office, UNICEF Staff, and visitors, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol, whilst ensuring compliance with local driving rules and regulations.

The Driver must demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact, and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

The driver receives a weekly schedule of required services for the upcoming week and confirms provision of services with the supervisor.

How can you make a difference?

The On-call Driver will provide driving services to the Head of Office, UNICEF staff and visitors, ensuring provision of reliable and safe driving on occasional travel within the Czech Republic when the target destination is not easily accessible by public transport or when the nature of the events requires a representative car and driver. The On-call Driver will be using UNICEF vehicle provided at no-cost to the office through in-kind donation by Volvo, currently by the end of June 2024.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A secondary education is required, along with a valid driver’s license.
  • A minimum of one [1] year of professional work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
  • Good knowledge of the city, local roads, and conditions where the office is located.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies
  • Skills in minor vehicle repairs
  • Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with visitors.
  • Professional attitude
  • High sense of confidentiality, initiative, and good judgment
  • Ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural background.
  • Fluency in English is required. Excellent command of local language (Basic knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (German, Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

Application requirement

Applicants are required to provide:

  • A short cover letter, highlighting relevant experience with similar type of assignments (max 300 words).
  • CV of the individual applicants
  • The Financial proposal including number of days for undertaking the assignment, daily fee, travel costs. Travel costs will be pre-approved by UNICEF as per the UNICEF rules and regulations for travel for consultants i.e., irrespective of the distance and duration of the flight, most direct and economy flight ticket shall apply.
  • The financial proposal should include all possible costs related to the implementation of the tasks under the present TOR including international, inter-city and in-city travel expenses and DSA. UNICEF does not provide or arrange health insurance coverage. The financial proposal must be submitted in a separate file of non-editable format (e.g. PDF). Consultancy fees should be broken down to show the details for the above-mentioned deliverables. In case the bidder is a resident of Czech Republic, please indicate VAT amount separately in your Financial Offer or clearly state if you are non-VAT payer.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected consultant is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected consultant is subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. The vaccine mandate, does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations, or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
