What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations

Purpose

The Logistics Learning and Development Manager is directly accountable and responsible for designing, driving, and implementing the training and professional development strategy of the Logistics Division worldwide. This role involves collecting, analyzing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and adjusting the Learning and Development (LnD) needs, activities, and projects related to humanitarian supply chain management (LOG), in coordination with various Business Process Owners (BPOs) and other stakeholders. Additionally, the individual in this position supports and coordinates the division’s efforts toward continuous improvement and Lean.

Main duties & responsibilities (1/2)

  • Develops, plans, and implements the global ‘Learning and Development’ strategy and programmes related to supply chain management in relation to the Division’s HR vision, business transformation needs, and performance targets.
  • Helps shape, coordinate, and deliver the Division’s global strategy for continuous improvement and Lean ways of working.
  • Conducts regular ‘Learning Needs Assessment’, on which priorities for training-related activities and projects are defined and converted to strategies adjustments, or stand-alone action plans, to meet the LnD needs of staff in the Logistics Division.
  • Maintains effective and proactive relationships with business process owners to understand, formalize, and help them achieve their needs and vision for training and professional development of their teams.
  • Drives and manages the design and implementation of new learning projects, such as developing course materials and resources, e-learning courses, and blended learning paths.
  • Responsible for the onboarding strategy, its implementation and adjustment to enable the best possible experience and operational readiness for the newcomers to the Division.
  • Ensures training and professional development activities are aligned with the functional competency framework of the Logistics Division.
  • Support organization and facilitation of various seminars and trainings, particularly those organized in the HQ in Geneva.

Main duties & responsibilities (2/2)

  • Supports, coaches, and develops the team of a) three Regional Logistics Trainers (Amman, Abidjan, Nairobi), as well as b) the Digital Learning Officer (based in Belgrade).
  • Ensures compliance with the Learning and Development Division’s policies, directions, and procedures.
  • Coordinates and promotes mentoring programs.
  • Develops and ensures the application of relevant tools, procedures, best practices, and recommendations in responsibility while proactively seeking more effective and innovative learning solutions.
  • Represent the Logistics Division on various LnD-related working groups, projects, etc.
  • Defines and monitors relevant KPIs, ensures optimal quality, and recommends adjustments based on observations, QC assessments, and other issues identified.

Relationships

  • Internally, interacts with colleagues from the Logistics Division, particularly the BPOs and SMEs, as well as with the Learning and Development Division and the Talent Managers. Additionally, represents the Logistics Division on various internal platforms and working groups, such as CONFOR, and the preparatory meetings for the Learning Council.
  • Externally, it represents the ICRC on the interagency ‘Certification Advisory Group’ and interacts with counterparts in similar organisations for collaboration, partnerships, knowledge, and experience sharing.

Professional experience & skills required

  • Holder of a relevant Degree (learning and development, adult education, supply chain management).
  • Typically, 10 years of relevant work experience, particularly in corporate learning and development, ideally in combination with supply chain management experience.
  • Past experiences implementing continuous improvement and Lean within the organization.
  • Proven experience working with the development of digital and blended learning programmes, as well as the use of Learning Management Systems.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English; proficiency in French considered an asset
  • Advanced Computer Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Certifications in Lean / Six Sigma are considered a strong asset.
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems and e-learning authoring tools is considered an asset.
