Provide accurate translation and interpretation services
You have:
- An advanced university degree in translation, interpretation, languages or a related field.
- A first-level degree from a university or equivalent with two additional years of qualifying experience is accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
- A minimum of five years of experience in translation and/or interpretation, including academic research work is required.
- Experience in these fields within the United Nations or another international organisation is desirable.
- Experience in providing translation or interpretation to human rights investigations or on human rights-related subjects is desirable.
- Fluency in French and Kirundi are required.
- Fluency in English and Swahili are desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities - The incumbent will provide accurate translation/interpretation as required from French to Kirundi and vice versa. - Join field missions - Produce accurate and timely written translation of documents from Kirundi to French as required by special rapporteur - Produce accurate translation of media articles as required by the special rapporteur. - Carry out the appropriate terminological and other research in the required field or expertise to ensure the accuracy and faithfulness of translations. - May occasionally be assigned to sensitive meetings - Maintain strict security and confidentiality of information - Provides and produces translation/interpretation/verbatim translation of victims' and witnesses' oral and written statements, during interviews, including during field missions and produces translations of written material, including but not limited to media articles and the annual detailed informal report to United Nations bodies, from and to Kirundi/French/English. - Identifies new terminology material and submits it for consideration of the revisers. - May occasionally be assigned to sensitive meetings. - Accompanying the mandate holder during missions to the region or country - Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications/special skills An advanced university degree in translation, interpretation, languages or a related field. A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status with two additional years of qualifying experience is accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree A minimum of five years of experience in translation and/or interpretation, including as part of academic research work is required. Experience in these fields within the United Nations or another international organisation is desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in French and Kirundi are required. Fluency in English and Swahili are desirable.
