Contract

This is a Consultancy contract. More about Consultancy contracts.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, a fair chance

The Sahel is a vast region with enormous potential for young people and future generations. However, children, particularly girls and adolescents, miss out on opportunities because of the impact of climate change, conflicts, COVID-19 and other vulnerabilities.

This quadruple crisis −conflicts and protection, health, socio-economic, and climate change− is disproportionately affecting children and adolescents. Millions miss out on basic health services, nutrition, education, protection and water, hygiene and sanitation and other social basic services. The future of an entire generation of children is now at risk.

In this context, working with communities so as to increase their resilience to withstand shocks and stresses is critical to reach and maintain socio-economic development, preserve their integrity and protect children.

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF WCARO is establishing a roster of consultants to support in documenting the models and approaches developed in Mali, Mauritania and Niger during the implementation of the Building resilience in the Sahel Programme.

The assignment is specifically envisaged to collect primary qualitative data on small samples in the field (e.g. at the level of one municipality or community), and analyze them in consultation with UNICEF, partners (government partners, NGOs, and right-holders, to validate and review the hypothesis designed under this programme. The data and their analysis will then be captured in short case studies (3-4 pages on average).

Specific objectives of this assignment will include:

  • Reflect on promising/ good practices, lessons learned, and innovations considered across those experiences.
  • Identify evidence around the impact of these interventions as applicable.
  • Reflect on how gender and youth engagement and participation was incorporated both from process and results perspectives across the programmatic approaches and models.
  • In discussion with communities, partners and UNICEF staff, formulate some key recommendations to influence effective programming based on the results of the case studies.
  • Support effective and timely decision-making and early action by drawing together sources of information in a meaningful way.
  • Produce well-designed, visually appealing and reader friendly three to four – page documents for each of the programmatic interventions including photos.
