Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Coordinator of the Technical Secretariat the UN Volunteer will Gender Equality Strategy:

In accordance with the United Nations Secretary-General seven-point Action Plan to improve the participation of women in peacebuilding (2010), and taking into account that to guarantee stability and promote peace in the post agreement period, it is essential to ensure the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women through participation in decision-making and guaranteeing the protection of women and girls from all forms of violence. The Fund will seek to allocate at least 30 percent of the funds in projects or activities that promote women's participation and empowerment, as well as gender equality. In the same way, the Fund will guarantee the follow-up to the incorporation of the gender approach throughout the implementation of the projects as established in the Gender Marker. In the framework of this strategy the Specialist must:

  • Guarantee that the Fund prioritizes interventions that include cross-cutting approaches that foster reconciliation, participation, differential and gender approach.
  • Guarantee that the projects financed by the Fund will include a differential approach, as well as a cross-cutting vision of reconciliation and strengthening of women’s rights and participation. This approach will be overviewed in the projects in accordance with the characteristics of each intervention.
  • Liaise and seek for technical advice from UN Women as support agency, maintaining open and fluid communication channels.
  • Check that interventions are developed in a participatory manner, recognizing the needs of the territories from a population perspective that strengthens the role of women, increasing the levels and quality of women's participation and empowerment as agents of change.
  • Ensure the incorporation of gender equality and women's rights approach in projects, including the monitoring of the effective implementation of the initial gender marker by the implementing entities.
  • Prepare gender analysis aiming at improving and promoting gender equality and participation of women in the Fund’s projects and processes

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Political science, international relations, public administration, sustainable development, social sciences, law, education or related area.

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

Minimum experience of three years in gender studies, knowledge management, programme monitoring, information analysis, conflict analysis and /or preparation of reports to donors, government and NGOs.

Desired: Work experience with the UN

Language skills:

  • Spanish(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge

Pre-departure training organized by the Government of Finland

The selected candidate will be invited to attend a training on Finland’s development policy and cooperation prior to deployment from 1 to 3 September 2021.
