BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

WFP is the largest cash actor in the humanitarian community, providing about US$ 3.3 billion of cash assistance to people in 72 countries during 2022, representing about 35% of WFP’s global assistance.

In support of WFP’s global scale-up of cash-based transfers (CBT), the Finance function (FIN) through the Business Development and Cash Based Transfers Branch (FINB) is developing corporate tools and guidance, providing day-to-day technical advice and assistance to Country Offices while also undertaking a range of staff capacity-building activities and advocacy activities.

As FINB undertakes these activities, the Financial Services Specialist will support WFP field operations through the provision of relevant technical advice aimed at strengthening regional and country offices' capacity to carry out functional assessments, selecting and negotiating with and contracting the most viable financial service providers.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

What you will do:

  • Lead the research, development/conceptualization, and execution of CBT Finance & Finance reports, factsheets, presentations, newsletters, infographics, key messages and videos targeted for specific audiences, senior level and external audiences.
  • Collate outreach data, contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reports, support communications activities that enable informed decision-making, and ensure consistency of information presented to WFP staff globally and to external stakeholders.
  • Compile Communication briefing kits, and knowledge repository of key Communication materials in support of FINB’s participation in missions, seminars, workshops, etc. to ensure effective knowledge dissemination of Key CBT Finance initiatives.
  • Manage and coordinate requests related to communication activities by other stakeholders within FIN or WFP to ensure the visibility of FINB activities.
  • Design, development, and execution of thematic communication plans & media packages to support the expansion of key FINB CBT Finance Initiatives.
  • Serve as the Unit’s focal point for communications with field-based FOs through monthly conference calls. Act as an escalation point for field queries, to ensure priorities and urgent matters are identified and addressed.
  • Liaise with Country Office Finance senior management to identify, develop and release key visibility stories and alignment with corporate priorities within Cash Based Transfers.
  • Collaborate closely with the FIN Divisional Comms Focal point in support on the execution of the FIN Communication Strategy, including the provision of relevant information, weekly updates, etc.
  • Support and contribute to the implementation of the Finance Division External Communications strategy and lead the content development for press releases, and to be posted on WFP social media channels.
  • Support staff capacity strengthening by developing advocacy toolkits and organizing interactive trainings and facilitate crucial webinars, meetings, workshops, and any other learning objectives as it relates to the subject-matter experts.
  • Manage and update in collaboration with the focal point(s) relevant guidance materials on WeLearn, GoDocs, and WFPgo pages as well as the monitoring of the reach of the developed communications materials, Yammer posts, and WFPgo pages
  • Participate in various discussions and act as the Unit’s focal person for CBT Knowledge Management.
  • Support the unit’s work plan implementation and activity management processes. Track the Unit’s Key Performance Indicators throughout the year and lead reporting and development of key documents such as the Annual Performance Plan.
  • Support internal FINB staff wellness initiatives and coordinate the implementation of the team’s mapped learning initiatives.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

  • CBT Finance Advocacy toolkit for engagements with internal and external stakeholders
  • Thematic communication packages and products for internal and external groups such as:
  • surveys, videos, news articles, talking points, trainings, reports, factsheets etc.
  • Posts on WFP Yammer, WFPgo articles, and WFP’s social media channels.
  • Others as defined in the development of the work plan and PACE planning.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

Knowledge

& Skills:

University degree (bachelor’s) in one of the following disciplines: communications, social development, media, or international affairs.

  • Skilled in using material publication software, website management, and developing material such as brochures, posters, and presentations for internal and external use.
  • Written and analytic skills; able to gather, review and synthesize information from a variety of sources, and create clear and concise reports based on information gathered
  • Strong interpersonal skills and work ethics, able to proactively and independently pursue tasks and ensure timely delivery
  • Effective organizational and planning skills to ensure set objectives are achieved within agreed timeframes
  • Ability to effectively engage with subject matter experts to produce communication materials; curiosity to learn about technical areas of expertise; ability to repurpose sometimes complex information into key messaging and external communications
  • Experience with the full Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc) as well as a good understanding of graphic development and video production
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team, independently, with remote teams, and cross-functionally.
  • Understanding of Cash-Based Transfers and Finance Strategy

    Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in Knowledge Management, communications, and using material publication software, video production, website management and developing material such as brochures, posters, videos, and presentations for internal and external use.

  • Demonstrated ability to think in a strategic manner, and ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral in English
  • Ability to produce clear concise reports on key issues and decisions within the delegated area of responsibility.
  • Experience in conceptualizing strategies & drafting, editing, content creation, preparation of reports, speeches, and presentations.
  • Experience in graphic design, video shooting, editing, production, and photography will be an advantage.
  • Experience working in the finance sector or financial communications

Languages:

Fluency in oral and written English and knowledge of a second UN/WFP language (French, Spanish, Arabic).
