JOB PURPOSE

To coordinate and implement Information Technology maintenance and support activities to enable the effective delivery of IT services.

ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. In September 2015, WFP opened an office in Suva, Fiji, to lead and support emergency preparedness in three sectors - Food Security, Logistics, and Emergency Telecommunications - across the Pacific Islands.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Carry out system and hardware maintenance tasks, such as running specialised network monitoring and system protection, to ensure technology is running effectively.
  • Coordinate installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems, networks and equipment, to ensure optimal services in compliance with standard operations procedures.
  • Monitor technology reliability, identify user needs, analyse data and produce accurate reports in order to recommend IT solutions to support informative decision-making.
  • Resolve queries independently, escalating if required, to ensure that standard IT questions are answered and accurate information is provided to staff.
  • Provide technical training to non-IT staff to enhance knowledge on WFP standard technology, IT security, tools and systems, in order to assist WFP staff in conducting their work effectively and securely.
  • Support the coordination of new application implementation in order to provide WFP staff with the tools they need to perform effectively.
  • Draft standard material such as end-user and technical documentation to ensure staff have access to required information about IT services and products.
  • Implement improvements to methods and processes within the IT division in order to support the continuous improvement of IT services provided.
  • Follow set emergency response processes and procedures as required to provide support in enabling emergency assistance needs to be met.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area.

WORK EXPERIENCE

At least five years of progressively responsible job-related experience in information technology or telecommunications or information management。

LANGUAGE

Fluency in both oral and written communication in English.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Has experience in the installation, use and the maintenance of satellite communications (voice and data) and radio technology (VHF, HF and UHF).
  • Has experience in the deployment and maintenance of energy solutions, such as generators and solar solutions.
  • Has experience analysing service management results and development service enhancement recommendations.
  • Has participated in business process re-engineering efforts and identified service management improvements.
  • Has experience participating in country office procurement/budgeting process.

OTHER POST REQUIREMENTS

  • Participate in the local IT Working Group to contribute to inter-agency decision-making processes in line with WFP's objectives in Fiji.
  • Make recommendations for the inclusion of information technology considerations in business continuity planning.
  • Ensure that a minimum contingency stock is maintained locally to respond to sudden scale-up requirements, making recommendations for procurement as appropriate.
  • Support the Head of Unit in ensuring compliance in global technology standards, completing the mandatory Field IT Emergency Data Tool (FITED) and making recommendations based on the Emergency Preparedness Checklist.
  • Act as IT asset management focalpoint managing hardware and software component to support PMCO operations, including but not limit to receive goods from vendor(s), register, distribute and tracking of IT asset under PMCO operation.
  • Perform IT security maintenance of PMCO IT and telecommunication systems, including software, patch update and configuration adjustment according to IT standard and security recommendations.
  • Other tasks as requested.
