IT Assistant

Duty Station [Aden -Yemen]

Who are we?

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a protection of human rights framework, DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict. Programmers include protection, livelihood, food and NFI distribution, water and sanitation, and advocacy amongst others. DRC Yemen has been providing relief and development services in Yemen since 2008. DRC has mainly focused on refugees and migrants displaced by conflict and natural disasters.

DRC, through its specialized business unit, (HDP) aims to recreate a safe environment where people can live without the threat of landmines, unexploded ordinances and small arms and light weapons”. These goals can be effectively advanced through cooperation and joint action with other organization as well as with integration of operations and programs with its sister organization, DRC.

DRC Yemen’s response

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been operating in Yemen since 2008 using a protection of human rights framework. DRC initially worked in Yemen with mixed migrants coming from the Horn of Africa who are displaced by conflict and drought. Since then, DRC expanded its sectors of intervention and is now providing humanitarian assistance in nineteen governorates throughout the country. Current programme sectors include protection, food security & livelihoods, WASH, Shelter, humanitarian mine action and CCCM. Safety assessments are carried out ahead of program activities and in light of security threats.

Overall purpose of the role:

Responsible for the day-to-day support of the IT infrastructure, including providing technical support in Aden Office and other related premises.

Geographic scope: Area (South****)

This role has an area focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of area strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or technical guidance to base operations.

Responsibilities: (in bullet points)

• Perform software installations and maintain day-to-day systems operations.

• Support DRC staff on their IT related issues if any. • Troubleshoot and maintain the WLAN connections and ensure Internet functionality.

• Maintain and manage the Mikrotik Routerboards. • Oversee software and network security and ensure that the anti-virus within the organization is updated on a timely basis. • Perform preventive maintenance service on the IT equipment & CCTV system on a scheduled basis. • Perform general repairs on some IT equipment and peripherals. • Ensure that Fiber, ADSL, Satellite internet and Adennet bills are paid on monthly basis. • Document network problems and resolution for future reference while monitoring system performance and implementing performance tuning. • Carry out capacity building and on the job training for staff as required.

• Reinforce IT policies to end users. • Frequent Travel to Field offices to support if needed.

• Any other tasks assigned by the technical/line manager.

Inventory management (Assets)

  • Register, label and track the recently procured IT Assets and other Equipment Assets and add them to the Assets tracking system.
  • Perform the physical inventory for All DRC assets on quarterly basis and share the reports with the Country Office.
  • Prepare the donor reports which includes all the related assets and share them with the Country office once needed.
  • Review and update compiled inventory reports (quantity, type and value of materials, and equipment and stock on hand) and upload them to the SharePoint on weekly basis.

Additional tasks:

  • DRC Dynamics – support team members in Aden Office and related field locations with routine troubleshooting on the system.
  • On request perform any other additional duties assigned by the supervisors in order to allow the organization to function optimally.

Experience and technical competencies: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 1 year of experience in IT position.

• Has an experience with assets management.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field.

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract until 31th July 2023, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work As soon as possible, and be willing and able to work Aden with regular travel to field locations.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment. This position will be placed at Band (NMI) and will be reporting to Support Service Manager.
