BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. The IRC Yemen began its programs in October 2012. Since establishing its presence in the South of Yemen, in the Red Sea Coastal city of Aden, the organization has grown from just an implementing small project to handling large scale emergency and relief operations. Following the war which broke out in Yemen in March of 2015 and the humanitarian disaster, which was crafted by the same, IRC launched one an emergency response program in the southern governorates of Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Shabwah and Aldalea. Currently IRC Yemen is operating in eight governorates in the south and north of Yemen and Sana’a and Hodeidah in the North through direct programming and through local partnerships, in Health, WASH, Nutrition, Economic Recovery Development, Education, Child Protection, Gender and Women Protection and Empowerment.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The IT Assistant will be involved in helping others in all aspects of the IT department’s work and offer vital support to colleagues, and the role will often include liaising with other departments to keep the organization's networks and systems working to their optimum levels. This is a varied role that also offers the chance to gain an understanding of the various aspects of Information Technology and establish an excellent career path.

JOB SUMMARY:

The IT Assistant is responsible for providing technical support and assistance to the IT department and end users with regular field visits to field offices. This may include troubleshooting hardware and software issues, installing and configuring computer systems, maintaining network infrastructure, and providing training and support to users. The IT Assistant may also assist with system upgrades and migrations and help with the development and implementation of IT policies and procedures.

WORKING RELATIONS:

This position has no supervisory role and will be reporting to the IT Supervisor.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Help Desk and Support

- Provides level 1 solutions, system and hardware maintenance tasks, and repairs for computer equipment locally and remotely for sub-offices. - Accurately details support, repairs, and project activities using a helpdesk ticketing system. - Accurately keep an up-to-date inventory report of all ICT equipment in use in the assets management system by performing monthly asset verifications for all IT assets in the office including Software and licenses. - Solves problems, and updates antivirus software. - Delivers/presents basic training materials to end users for new systems used widely in the organization. Provide basic training to new staff on Information Technology policy. - Work on any tasks assigned by the supervisor, IT Manager, or IT team to accomplish the overall interpersonal goals.

Networking and Internet

- Solves internet connection problems and helps to provide a reliable internet connection for the sites through accurate liaison with the ISP. - Supervises the office WAN connection. - Monitors network devices operation and performance. - Provides technical input and support to Local Area Network. Ensures accurate record-keeping of breakdowns, problems, and maintenance carried out. - Assists in installing, configuring, and maintaining networking equipment. - Provides planning, documentation, and support for IT infrastructure. - Installs and fixes network peripherals. Promotes efficient and accurate use of printer(s) by all staff. - Provide basic technical support to the office CCTV system and assist Humanitarian Access and Supply Chain staff with day-to-day use and maintenance.

Servers and backup

- Server-level administration, installs and maintains servers, Provides basic fixes for server and associated systems. - Provides and maintains local data backups and cloud-based data backups. Ensures that server backup is done regularly. - Performs periodic checks on the server backup power system.

Reporting

- Prepares weekly report for supervisor.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS: (Qualifications, Skills and Abilities):

A. Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in IT or computer science, for graduators from 2020 – 2023

B. Experience:

- Acquired IT certifications would be an advantage.

C. Skills and Abilities****:

- Strong digital literacy, with a good knowledge of MS Office Windows (Word, Excel, Access) and platforms - Excellent computer skills (shown digital literacy, Excel knowledge is a must) and knowledge of computer software and hardware! - Native Arabic - good written and spoken English. - Highly motivated, eager to learn, and a hard worker!

D. Proficiencies:

- Strong team spirit, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment - Excellent analytical skills, observation, and analysis capacity - Attention to detail and a structured way of approaching tasks. - Able to ensure quick quality delivery in stressful environments.
