This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The ICT Support Assistant works in close collaboration with the ICT assistant in Aden, ICT staff in Sana’a, operations, programme and projects staff in Aden sub-office and with UNDP CO staff to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of [operations manager] or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV will:

Summary of Key Functions:

• Implementation of ICT management systems and strategies in the Aden Sub-Office • Effective functioning of the hardware and software packages • Support to networks administration • Provision of administrative support • Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing • Ensure the effective and efficient management /use of all ICT related tools and systems including telephones, electricity, generators .
1.Supports implementation of ICT management systems and strategies, focusing on achievement of the following results:

• Compliance with corporate information management and technology standards, guidelines and procedures for the sub -office technology environment • Support to the use of Atlas functionality for improved business results and improved client services. • Provision of inputs to the UNDP sub office administrative business processes mapping and implementation of the internal standard operating procedures (SOPs). • Provision of inputs to preparation of results-oriented workplans. • Provide handy ICT support to other UN sister agencies who are using the UNDP common premises.

  1. Ensures effective functioning of the UNDP sub office hardware and software packages, focusing on the achievement of the following results:

 Performance of specific technical functions, including changing of hardware electronic components (disks, memories, network wiring, power sources, etc.) and routine repairs.  Assistance in the installation of commercial and in-house developed software and related upgrades  Assistance in upgrading patch and anti-virus programs on a timely basis.  Monitoring of file server traffic, usage and performance on a frequent and regular basis. Support to users in backing up and restoring their files, as well as in virus detection, removal and prevention

  1. Supports networks administration, focusing on achievement of the following results: • Assistance in troubleshooting and monitoring of network problems. • Response to user needs and questions regarding network access. • Assistance in backup and restoration procedures for local drives. Maintenance of backup logs. Assistance to organization of off-site storage of backups

  2. Provides administrative support, focusing on achievement of the following results: • Maintenance of an up-to-date inventory of software and hardware. • Maintenance of a library of ICT-related reference materials. • Maintenance of the inventory and stock of supplies and spare parts in cooperation with the Procurement Unit. • Maintenance of the filing system ensuring safekeeping of confidential materials. • Extraction of data from various sources. • Research and retrieve l data from internal and external sources; prepare statistical charts, tables and reports as required. • Provision of ICT support to key events. • Maintenance and operation of the generators, electricity supplies, telephone and other communications systems/supplies

  3. Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the CO, focusing on achievement of the following results:

• Participation and assistance in the organisation of training for the CO staff on ICT issues. • Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice

IV. Impact of Results

The key results have an impact on the overall efficiency of the Country Office including improved business results and client services. Forward-looking ICT management has an impact on the organization of office management, knowledge sharing, and information provision

ICT and troubleshooting support service at the national or international level is required. •Excellent oral and written skills. •Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organisations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development. •Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; •Self-motivated, able to work with minimum supervision and with tight deadlines.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.
