Org. Setting and Reporting These two temporary positions are located in the French Interpretation Section, Interpretation Service, Division of Conference Management, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, Geneva. The incumbents report to the Chief, French Interpretation Section.

Responsibilities Under the general supervision of the Chief, Interpretation Service and the direct supervision of the Chief, French Interpretation Section, the interpreter will be responsible for the following duties: - Services up to seven meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours duration, of various United Nations bodies. - Provides interpretation into French of speeches given in English and Spanish. - Routinely covers sensitive meetings. - May perform other related duties, as required.

Education A first level degree from a university or from an institution of equivalent status is required.

Work Experience At least two (2) years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the posts advertised, a perfect command of French, normally expected to be the incumbent's main language, is required. Candidates for this post must also possess an excellent knowledge of English and Spanish.

NOTE: "Perfect command equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "excellent knowledge" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Applicants who have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for French Interpreters (CELP or LCE) or who are already placed on the "Global Language Roster" (GLR) are not subject to any further assessment and as such, will not be invited for such an assessment.
