Purpose of Activity/ Assignment:

The Human Resources Intern will assist the Senior Leadership Support Team/Division of Human Resources (DHR) to develop new and improve existing (SOP’s) for a variety of complex operations and coordination of recruitment cases. This is a unique opportunity to receive experience that requires professionalism, attention to detail, multi-tasking, as well as tactical responsibilities that expose the intern first-hand to the experiences of a Human Resources professional.

The Intern, Human Resources Management will directly work with the HR Management team on a variety of projects and key business initiatives planned for 2022. This role will be embraced by all of our ongoing activities. This is an excellent opportunity for a student looking to begin a career in supporting people and business leaders.

Main Tasks and Deliverables:

The intern will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Identification of SOP’s that need to be updated.
  • The development of Senior Leadership Support unit of new SOP.
  • Upload and organize electronic SOP library.
  • Support in the coordination of assigned recruitment cases.
  • Support our HR Business Partners with job postings on our career page and social media platforms, as needed.
  • Aid in the reviewing and screening process of our employment opportunities.
  • Identify top talent candidates based on requirements identified by our business partners in close collaboration with the hiring manager and our HR Management team
  • Schedule phone, video and in-person interviews.
  • Assist the HR department in numerous projects and updates to processes.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience dealing with confidential, sensitive information/case with discretion and tact
  • Creative, highly organized, and keen eyes for details
  • Graphic design experience is desirable
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment with staff from different backgrounds and levels of seniority.
  • Excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office and computer skills (MS applications, especially Word, Acess and Excel).
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

Other Requirements:

  • Letter of verification from the college or university that the intern is currently enrolled in an undergraduate school and has completed at least two years of full-time study at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an undergraduate degree; or, Graduate Degree Program (i.e., Master's, PhD). It should also state the expected graduation date.
  • Copy of their most recent official transcript showing excellent academic performance
  • Copy of Identification Card (ID)
  • One signed letter of recommendation on letterhead or from professional email address
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.

For students currently enrolled in a college or university in the United States of America, the following applicant must be a:

  • F1 visa holders who also have a (Curricular Practical Training) CPT;
  • US permanent residents (green card holders); or,
  • US Citizens

Duration:

The team is seeking to engage a qualified intern, as soon as possible, for a period from three to six months. The selected candidate will be expected to work full time.

Insurance:

UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work with DHR.

Location

The internship will be based at UNICEF NY headquarters in the Division of Human Resources. Selected candidate will work remotely until further notice.

It does not apply to selected candidates who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their contracts.
