With the war in Ukraine, many families were forced to leave their homes and their country. More than 2.86 million refugees have entered Poland from Ukraine, constituting one of the largest refugee movements in Europe in recent history. The large majority of arrivals have been women and children, including unaccompanied and separated children. It is estimated that around 65% of the total refugee population in the country are children under the age of 18.

The UNICEF Emergency Response Office in Poland works closely with the Ministry of Education and Science (MoES), Municipalities and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to expand access to all forms of education and improve the quality and inclusiveness of education services for vulnerable Ukrainian and Polish children.

The UNICEF Emergency Response Office in Poland is looking for a national intern to join the education team. The selected interns, in collaboration with and under the guidance of his/ her supervisors, will mainly support the partnerships with CSOs for programme planning, implementation as well as monitoring and reporting.

The intern will:

  • Review partner reports and present monthly trends for analysis;
  • Conduct data entry and data cleaning and prepare pivot tables as requested;
  • Prepare data comparison tables and map potential service expansion areas;
  • Create pivot tables for education programme outreach results and prepare summaries and disaggregated data sets based on different socio-economic and regional variables;
  • Compile and organize information and data pertaining to education projects and programmes;
  • Follow up with partners on communication and visibility materials they produce;
  • Follow up on the provision of supplies to implementing partners;
  • Arrange meetings, workshops and training courses and provide support in making logistical arrangements and
  • Support translation between English and Polish and vice versa of key programme related documents.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a degree programme in an undergraduate or graduate school of social sciences (preferably Educational Sciences, Literary Sciences or other relevant social science). Applicants enrolled in an undergraduate school must have completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an undergraduate degree.
  • Fluent in Polish and English; fluency in Ukrainian is an asset.
  • Good computer skills and Excel proficiency is required.
  • Excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institutional records; and
  • Additional consideration will be given for any past internship experience in related fields.

This internship is full-time and for a duration of 24 weeks - 6 months (preferably starting in December 2022).

This position is classified as temporary and does not carry any expectancy of renewal and will not be converted to any other type of appointment.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
