Duties and Responsibilities

Support the drafting of research documents on housing and urban planning policies. Compile and synthesize data on the urban context of Latin America and the Caribbean (demographic trends, urbanization patterns, mapping). Conduct literature reviews on circular economy concepts applied to cities, including environmental, climate, and urban productivity dimensions. Collaborate with the team in refining the research framework, as needed The internship in the Human Settlements Unit, Santiago will last 3 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office and availability of the candidates. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Responsibilities: The intern will be supporting substantive work on urban renewal strategies for decaying or underused consolidated areas in Latin America and the Caribbean, applying a circular economy approach to land use, the built environment, and urban regeneration. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the internship period. Duties may include:- Researches, compiles, systematically organizes and analyses information and reference materials from various sources for reports, work plans, studies, briefings, meetings/conferences, etc. - Proofreads documents, translates (Spanish/English/ Portuguese) - Edits texts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation and style, and for adherence to established standards for format. - Prepares a variety of inputs for reports, publications and presentations (this may include tables, lists, graphs, charts and/or diagrams. - Prepares, adapts and reviews web content and uploads information to the unit's platforms - Format documents in line with organization standards - Compiles statistical data for reporting on sustainable urban development

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Is your field of study related to statistics, demography, housing policy, urban planning, or public policy? Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
