Context

The Partnerships and Policy Department is responsible for NRC’s strategic relations with institutional donors and private foundations and is the “centre of excellence” on donor/partner relations in NRC, thereby providing support to all Departments, and Regional, Country and Representation Offices in the organisation. This includes being responsible for developing relevant global strategies for resource mobilisation; developing funding prospects with existing and new donors; further streamlining NRC’s procedures, processes and tools related to resource mobilisation and grant management; developing and providing internal training and help-desk support, etc.

What you will do

You will be responsible for strategic relations with German donors, in particular the German Development Bank KfW, and for building internal capacity and maintaining a help desk on donor related issues.

Some of your day-to-day tasks will include;

  1. Be one of two NRC focal points regarding expertise on German donors in particular with KfW and their relations with NRC:
  • Advise NRC colleagues on communication lines with the donor, funding cycles, and best practice when it comes to resource mobilisation.
  • Maintain an overview of NRC’s past and present engagement with the donor.
  • Assist with setting up, preparing as well as participate in donor meetings and ensure professional communication with the donor.
  1. Assist with resource mobilisation:
  • Track and share information about new funding opportunities.
  • Undertake “donor mappings” upon request from NRC Country Offices and departments. Be responsible and coordinate for prequalification processes in order to access donor funding.
  • Manage the processes related to prioritisation of internally competing proposals.
  • Provide help-desk support and capacity build staff on fund raising and donor rules.
  • Stay updated on donor conditionalities, rules & regulations. Ensure that key information about these is regularly updated and available to NRC staff to facilitate compliance.
  • Develop and deliver trainings to NRC staff on rules and requirements.
  • Provide advice on donor expectations and requirements in proposal and reports and participate and assist with quality control
  • Provide advice on clauses in grant agreements, service contracts and consortia agreements
  • Document learning and good practice related to the individual donor
  1. Network and advocate for improved financing conditions****:
  • Network, share information and undertake joint lobbying (vis-à-vis donors) with other NGOs that receive financial support from the same donor.
  • Advocate for and negotiate improved conditions with the donor, where relevant and possible.
  • Liaise with other NRC units on donor related issues.
  • Stay updated on NRC ‘s strategy, priorities and funding needs.
  • Ensure that NRC’s donor relations are adequately reflected in external communication.
  • Establish and coordinate donor specific internal working groups or other regular meeting points to facilitate sharing of information, capacity building, learning, etc.

What you will bring

  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in working with German donors and specifically having worked with KfW.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of KfW and other German donors, including strategic priorities, organisational setup and funding mechanisms, is a clear advantage.
  • Must be an employee of NRC. Applicants who left NRC in the last 2 years are also eligible.
  • Relevant experience from project management in the humanitarian sector.
  • Good understanding of donor rules and regulations.
  • Strong communication, co-ordination, proposal writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills (data and financial).
  • Must be a German or European Union citizen with fluency in both German and English languages.
  • Must be eligible to live and work in Germany.
