Org. Setting and Reporting

UNTSO was the first peacekeeping operation established by the Security Council, in its resolution 50 (1949), and continues to represent the commitment of the Council to assist in the implementation of the 1949 Armistice Agreements and their attendant ceasefires. In its resolution 73 (1949), the Council requested the Secretary-General to arrange for the continued service of such UNTSO personnel as might be required in observing and maintaining the ceasefire, as requested by the Council in its resolution 54 (1948), and as might be necessary in assisting the parties to the Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. UNTSO is mandated to observe and maintain the unconditional ceasefires and assist the parties to the 1949 Armistice Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. Its mandate derives from Security Council resolutions and decisions, including foundational resolutions 50 (1948), 54 (1948), and 73 (1949). UNTSO ’s activities are spread over Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic to maintain the regional liaison architecture established under the Armistice Agreements. This position is located in the Service Desk Team of the Field Technology Services at UNTSO Headquarters, Jerusalem.

Responsibilities

Under the overall direction of the Chief Field Technology Services (FTS) the incumbent will report to the Information Systems Officer, and perform the following functions: Desktop Administration and Configuration • Monitors all personal computers running the UN software delivery system to ensure that software distributions are being delivered correctly. • Performs software distribution updates, scripting, testing and support. • Performs research into new versions of centrally supported software and perform beta testing, production rollout and post-production support. • Assists with Data Management initiatives, including the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of presentations and reports, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning, and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages and or brochures. • Provides technical advice to clients when necessary. • Provides guidance and training to new staff. • Performs other related duties as required. Server Operations and Administration • Performs administration, operation, technical support and monitoring of printer server systems. Liaises with other groups and the users within the department for maintaining the efficient and reliable operations of printer server systems. • Performs 24x7 operations of assigned systems. • Assists in identifying the need for new systems or re-engineering of the existing systems. • Responds to requests from user offices and assists in deploying/configuring systems so as to confirm to infrastructure standards. • Maintains the documentation of server systems, pertinent to operations and system administration. • Provides technical advice to clients when necessary. • Provides guidance and training to new staff. • Performs other related duties as required. Service Installation and Support • Receives and logs problem calls or service requests in the ticketing system with minimum delay. • Performs tasks related to scheduled service requests, including equipment replacement, equipment and software installation and inventory management. • Diagnoses and resolves any hardware, software, or connectivity problem with minimum delay. • Provides basic training to end-users on the use of standard systems and applications. • Escalates problems/tasks to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedures. • Occasionally leads special projects. • Performs other related duties as required. Procurement and Logistics • Enters asset transactions into the automated inventory management system in accordance with established procedure. • Manages and stores equipment in accordance with work orders and/or equipment condition. • Monitors inventory levels. • Recommends acquisition of hardware, software, devices, tools, etc. • Performs other duties as required. Service Coordination • Creates and assigns work orders in accordance with established procedures. • Distributes work assignments and monitors progress. • Performs quality assurance procedures to ensure client satisfaction. • Detects problem patterns and recommend solutions. • Performs other duties as required. Physical Requirements • May be required to lift, move, mount, or store equipment weighing up to 50 lbs., or up to 80 pieces of equipment on a daily basis. • May be required to work on shift assignments on weekdays to maintain the service coverage from 07:00 to 18:00. Occasionally, on average once a month, the incumbent may be required to work ad-hoc assignments during evenings or early mornings of working days as well as holidays and weekends. • May be required to visit user’s offices to resolve problems on their desktop PCs/laptops. • May require the ability to cope with the working conditions of the Data Centre where the level of noise and electro-magnetic fields may be slightly higher than the normal office environment while the temperature may be lower.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Supplemental courses/technical certificate in information technology or other related field is desirable. Supplemental training to keep abreast of changes in information technology is desirable. An associate university degree or equivalent in computer science/information technology is desirable.

Job - Specific Qualification

Certificate in ITIL is desirable. Certificate in Project Management (prince 2 or equivalent) is desirable. Certificate in M365 is desirable. Supplemental courses/technical certificate in information technology or other related field is desirable. An associate university degree or equivalent in computer science/information technology is desirable. Supplemental training to keep abreast of changes in information technology is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in information technology or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software solutions, technical writing or related area is required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in supporting users on Microsoft Office 365 products including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint is required. Working experience in Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) and Service Desk support is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of Arabic and/or Hebrew (read, speak, and understand) is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
