Information and Communications Coordinator

ROLE PURPOSE:

The post-holder will work with staff throughout Save the Children and a wide range of external actors, including local communities and partners, to ensure Save the Children’s humanitarian response in Ukraine is effectively presented both nationally and regionally to the general public. This will be done through the development of information and communication products and the building of robust relationships with media representatives.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

The Information and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for the development of products on issues affecting children in Ukraine, including press releases, case studies, videos, photos, reports as well as internal communications products as required

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Communications

  • Ensure that all communications products are of a high quality and conform to standards and procedures, including brand guidelines and child safeguarding;
  • Provide regular data and information on context developments and programme updates, including those from area offices, to inform advocacy, media and communications outputs;
  • In cooperation with communication teams in the field, the post-holder will ensure timely and high-quality donor reporting;
  • In cooperation with Media Manager and/or Campaigns and Child Participation Manager, implement special communication projects and organise public events;
  • In cooperation with Child Rights Advisor, develop materials to promote child rights;
  • Act as a communication focal point for internal stakeholders and partnering organisations;
  • Plan, create, and/or deliver impactful content showcasing the outcomes of Save the Children's initiatives, programs and projects in the field.
  • Develop content for the website, digital platforms, and internal communication channels by leveraging key resources from the area office’s programs and projects.
  • Engage in essential coordination forums to ensure the continuous production of pertinent content for diverse stakeholders (TAs, members, donors, partners, and other relevant parties).
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate communication strategies that amplify the reach and effectiveness of our programs and projects.
  • Detect and address concerns regarding communication, visibility, and reputation risks within the operational areas of our programs and projects.
  • Provide technical guidance in developing communication materials (such as photos, case studies, key print materials, and other pertinent and relevant resources tailored to the social and/or cultural context) to uphold Save the Children's principles, values, and objectives.

Internal communications and information-sharing

  • Support to a system of regular information dissemination support production of information documents and publications for the Ukraine Country Office program and internal stakeholders;
  • Work with the Communications Manager and area officers to develop an internal reporting system that ensures the cascading of information from the top-down and the bottom-up channelling of information;
  • Support in the development and implementation of effective system for internal communications;
  • Offer technical support, enhance capabilities, and assist communication teams in area offices with executing communication and campaign elements of programs and projects.
  • Work with programme teams to produce an internal monthly newsletter and situation report.

General

  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures
  • To perform such other responsibilities as agreed with your line management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree or equivalent experience in journalism, media, communications or similar discipline.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • High level of both spoken and written English and Ukrainian
  • At least two years of professional experience in communications, multimedia, journalism, media or external communications work in an INGO or media setting
  • Can produce accurate, clear and consistent information and communication outputs relating to both programme support and humanitarian situation
  • Evidence of excellent English verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of different audiences including donors, journalists and the ‘general public’. Ability to strategically target a wide range of audiences is essential.
  • Experience in leading information and communication flows between emergency responses and a variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Proven ability to work with communities and partners to gather case studies, testimonies and information on the humanitarian situation and on programmes.
  • Experience and understanding of the Ukraine crisis

Desirable

  • Previous INGO experience
  • Previous multimedia production experience
  • Save the Children previous experience
