The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) seeks to hire a Communications Specialist to support its communications and outreach efforts. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies, managing media relations, and creating compelling content to promote UNDP's initiatives and projects for the UNDP Inclusive Growth Team.

Under the direct supervision of the Inclusive Growth Programme Analyst, who will provide direction and guidance to the UNV and supervise the UNV. The UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to effectively pro-mote UNDP IG's projects and activities. • Create engaging content for various platforms including social media, websites, newsletters, and press releases. • Manage media relations, including drafting press releases, organizing press conferences, and cultivating relationships with journalists and media outlets. • Monitor media coverage and analyze communication strategies to ensure maximum impact and reach. • Provide communication support to UNDP IGs projects and initiatives, including developing communication plans and materials. • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistency and coherence in messaging and branding. • Organize events, workshops, and campaigns to raise awareness and visibility of UNDP's work. • Provide communication training and guidance to staff members as needed.

communications, public relations, or media relations, preferably in an international organization or a similar setting. Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to create clear, concise, and compelling content. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies and campaigns. Familiarity with digital communication tools and social media platforms. Knowledge of international development issues and the work of the United Nations is desirable. Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in additional languages is an asset.

The position will be based in Suva, Fiji but will require extensive travel to the Pacific Island Countries and territories. Many field location have with basic facilities.

Fiji lies in the heart of the Pacific Ocean midway between the Equator and the South Pole, and it is located north of New Zealand and northwest of Australia. Fiji consists of 18,333 square km of land and includes approximately 300 islands of which around 110 are inhabited. The capital is Suva, and it is one of the two cities in Fiji. The other is Lautoka City and both are on the island of Viti Levu.

Fiji has a tropical oceanic climate. The rainy season, from November to April, coincides with the hot and humid months and the cooler months are from May to October. Humidity tends to be higher in the South and East and much less in the west and north. Temperatures in January in Suva can be min - max temp: 23 - 30 oC or 74 - 86 oF and in July: min - max temp: 20 - 26 oC or 68 - 79 o F. Fiji sits in a cyclone area, and cyclones are most likely to occur in the summer months between November and April.

English is the official working language of the country and is widely used, with Fijian, Hindustani and Rotuman being the actual languages of the country. Fiji is currently in UN Security phase 1. There are several apartments (including fully furnished apartments) and houses available. Before starting your search for permanent accommodation, speak with UNDSS and your colleagues about recommended areas and those to avoid. There may also be some staff leaving that will be vacating their accommodation. Most UN staff live in Domain, around Albert Park, Flagstaff and Nasese. Rental price ranges from approx. US900 to US$4,500 per month.
