This United Nations Volunteers (UNV) assignment is part of UNDP’s Voter Outreach for Transparent Elections (VOTE Fiji) project supported by the Government of New Zealand and Australia. The project focuses in strengthening the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) by promoting transparency, voter awareness, and gender sensitivity to improve future elections, both local and national. It seeks to overcome structural challenges and societal barriers to create a more inclusive democracy. Building on the success of the 2022 General Election and aligning with UNDP's Pacific Strategy, it focuses on gender equality and peace. The goal is to increase civic understanding, public participation, and trust by incorporating international best practices for a fair electoral system. The position is earmarked to assist the FEO in its media and communications mechanism that ensure Fijians to be well informed of the electoral processes. The position will be embedded in the FEO Stakeholder Engagement Unit.

Assist the Stakeholder Engagement Unit on the following: • Create engaging content for voter outreach programs for various communication and media platforms including social media, websites and newsletters. • Prepare and distribute press releases and media updates • Monitor media coverage and provide reports on media trends and public responses. • Manage and update the website and social media accounts regularly. • Provide regular reports and recommendations for improving communications efforts • Provide necessary support to the Stakeholder Engagement team, and electoral officers • Offer required support to election advisors.

Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, Communication Studies, or other relevant programs; experience with electoral processes is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization. Other desired/mandatory required technical knowledge: Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills. Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others), email, and internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; Have affinity with or interest in governance, elections and/or development work, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN system.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.

UN Volunteer entitlements and allowances: The purpose of allowances for UN Volunteers is to enable them to sustain a modest and secure standard of living at the duty station. The allowances are in no way to be understood as a compensation, reward or salary in exchange for the volunteer work.

• Monthly Living Allowance: FJD 2086.94 • Entry Lump Sum: USD 400 (approximately FJD 900) • Comprehensive coverage for health, life and malicious acts for the UN Volunteer and health insurance coverage for up to 3 eligible dependents (Cigna).
