Overview

Translate documents between English and Myanmar languages

You have:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience translating from the Myanmar language (Burmese) and/or other languages used in Myanmar (such as Chin, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya and Shan) into the English language, and vice versa, is required.
  • A relevant first level university degree is required.
  • A university certificate with an additional 2 years of relevant professional experience in translation may be accepted in lieu of a university degree.
  • Certification in English and/or one of the Myanmar languages would be desirable.
  • Experience in translating legal, criminal investigative documents/information is desirable.
  • Experience with interpretation is desirable.
  • Fluency in English and the Myanmar language (Burmese) and/or another language used in Myanmar (such as Chin, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya and Shan) is required.

Result of Service Timeliness and quality of the translated documents to and from English and one (or more of) of the languages used in Myanmar. All text should be in a form that has been proofread, free from errors and ready for use. Respect for security and confidentiality with regards to all aspects of work assignments.

Expected duration As soon as possible for up to 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities The recruitments will proceed during the course 2023 and the contract duration may vary, depending on the needs of the Mechanism. Under the direct supervision of the Language Services Support Section of the Independent Investigative Mechanism on Myanmar, the translator shall be responsible for: - providing accurate translation from the Myanmar language (Burmese) and/or other languages used in Myanmar (such as Chin, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya and Shan) to the English language, and vice versa as required by the Mechanism of documents and materials that will be provided on an ad-hoc basis. - perform other tasks pertaining to the use of the Myanmar language (Burmese) and/or other languages used in Myanmar (such as Chin, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya and Shan), as may be required.
