Overview

Provide accurate translations between English and Myanmar languages

You have:

  • A relevant first level university degree is required.
  • Certification in English and/or one of the Myanmar languages would be desirable.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience translating from the English language into one of the Myanmar languages, and vice versa, is required.
  • Experience in translating legal, criminal investigative documents or information is desirable.
  • Fluency in English and the Myanmar language (Burmese) and/or another language used in Myanmar is required.

Result of Service

Timeliness and quality of the translated documents to and from English and one (or more of) of the languages of Myanmar. All text should be in a form that has been proofread, free from errors and ready for use. Contribute to the Mechanism’s language services team discussion on lexicons and other technical issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

Several recruitments are envisaged through this TOR. The recruitments will proceed during the course 2024 and the contract duration may vary, depending on the needs of the Mechanism. Under the direct supervision of the Front Office and/or the Collection, Analysis and Sharing Section (CASS) of the Independent Investigative Mechanism on Myanmar, the translator shall be responsible for: • providing accurate translation from the English language to the Myanmar language (Burmese) and/or other languages used in Myanmar (such as Chin, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya and Shan), and vice versa as required by the Mechanism of documents and materials that will be provided on an ad-hoc basis. • proofreads any translation work that is done by any other translation individual contractor for the Mechanism. • providing timeous translations for use on the Mechanism’s social media channel and website. • meeting periodically with the Mechanism’s language services team to discuss lexicons and other issues. • other tasks pertaining to the use of the Myanmar language (Burmese) and/or other languages used in Myanmar (such as Chin, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya and Shan), as may be required.
