UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. UN Women Central African Republic country Office contributes to its global corporate mandate to make the vision of the sustainable Development Goals a reality for women and girls and stands behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life. Its main objective is to promote women’s human rights and gender equality which are key in sustaining and furthering achievements in stability and development. In this regard, its programming in the Country is connected of five corporate priority areas: (1) women’s leadership and political participation;(2) enhancing women’s economic empowerment;(3) engaging women in all aspects of peace and security processes; (4) advancing women’s rights to live free from violence; and (5) Implementing gender responsive budgeting and governance. UN Women also coordinates and promotes the UN system’s joint work in advancing gender equality

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Operations Manager or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV ICT ASSISTANT will:

  1. Provide support to the implementation of ICT strategies and new technologies in accordance with corporate information management and technology standards, guidelines, and procedures:

• Provide IT support in the use of Quantum/ SharePoint (UN Women’s implementation PeopleSoft ERP) functionality for improved business results and improved client services.

  1. Provide technical IT support in the Country Office • Provide technical support to the installation and maintenance of all communication systems including mobile and satellite phones, commercial and in-house developed software, and anti-virus! • Set up new email accounts for Country Office staff, liaising with HQ for guidance. • Monitor file server traffic, usage, and performance on a regular basis. • Provide technical support to the installation corporate software and related upgrades.
  2. Ensure efficient networks administration: • Monitor the network connection daily to ensure stable and responsive network environment. • . Configure network printers and provide user access as required. • Trouble-shoot and monitor network problems; respond to user needs and questions regarding network access. • Maintain measures for business continuity and disaster recovery processes and procedures including backup and restoration of both server and local storage facilities. • Provide technical support to Local Area Network (LAN) management in accordance with UN Women requirements.

  3. Provide administrative support regarding ICT issues: • Maintain inventory and stock of supplies and spare parts in cooperation with the Procurement Unit • Research and retrieval of data from internal and external sources; prepare statistical charts, tables, and reports as required. • Provide ICT support to key events.

  4. Contribute to knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the RO:

• Contribute to the organization of trainings for the Country Office staff on ICT issues. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

• Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and mail/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment. • Self-motivation, Ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines. • Sound security awareness. • Have affinity with or interest in promoting women’s human rights and gender equality which are key in sustaining and furthering achievements in stability, and volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Living conditions vary from stable environments to very changing and dynamic ones. Be aware that many UN Volunteers work in remote, isolated duty stations where basic comforts may be limited. Many other UN Volunteers work under routine conditions, such as capital cities, with all modern conveniences available. Our assignments are categorized as “family” or “non-family” duty stations, depending on the nature of the assignment and the security context.

Wellbeing Differential UN Volunteers serving in locations where the living conditions meet the eligibility criteria for payment of Wellbeing Differential, as established by UNV methodology, will receive a Wellbeing Differential payment. The purpose of the Wellbeing Differential is to offset the cost-of-living conditions that are substantially below those conditions in what is defined by UNV as a hardship duty station. Danger Pay and hardship entitlements provided to UN staff do not apply to UN Volunteers.
