Guinea is a low-income country. Child poverty is widespread with 60% of children living in poor households. Despite some progress over the last 2 decades, significant challenges remain in the realization of children’s rights including in protection, health, nutrition, and education. UNICEF is active in the country with the full scope of programmes, and a presence in the capital Conakry in addition to three zone offices. Guinea is prone to emergencies, particularly epidemics, which have required and are expected to continue requiring an emergency response from UNICEF.

How can you make a difference?

The Guinea Country Office is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate professional to lead our HR team. As HR Specialist, you will be in charge of the full range of services in the area of human resources including recruitment and staffing, learning and development, performance management, strategic HR planning, and staff wellbeing. You will report to the Deputy Representative (Operations) and lead the HR team. If you are looking to make a difference in managing the HR component in a large and complex programme country, this is your opportunity.

Your responsibilities will include.

  • Serve as the HR business partner in all aspects of the employment life cycle.
  • Provide technical leadership in all areas of HR including recruitment, career development, organizational development, performance management, learning, wellbeing, and HR administration.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and response.
  • Establish and improve HR systems, policies and processes at country level.
  • Keep abreast, research, benchmark, and implement best and cutting-edge practices in HR management.
  • Promote critical thinking, innovative approaches, and good practices for human resource management.
  • Liaise with the regional office and contribute to the development of corporate HR strategy formulation and implementation.
  • Design and deliver learning plans for staff to enhance their knowledge and build skills in new areas.
  • Contribute to the mapping of competencies and lead the development of a talent pipeline
  • Provide performance management guidance to supervisors including coaching, counseling, development conversations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Promote the organizational goals and targets for gender equity and cultural diversity.
  • Lead and supervise the HR team by providing clear objectives, goals, direction
  • Prepare, coordinate and implement an annual HR work plan based on strategic priorities of the office

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An Advanced University Degree in human resource management, business management, international relations, psychology or another related field. Exceptionally, a first-level university degree combined with additional relevant working experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in human resource management in an international organization or corporation, or in the public sector.
  • Working experience from developing countries, and from emergencies, is an asset.
  • Fluency in French and English.
