You have:

  • Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint are required.
  • Good skills in SQL, Power BI, Power Automate, Access, and Word are required.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated and innovative Data Analytics and Visualization Intern to join our team. The intern will analyse human resources data, create insightful visualizations, and support various innovation projects. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data analytics, and project management within the United Nations. This internship position is located within the Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD), Office of Human Resources (OHR), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The intern will report to a Human Resources Officer and works up to five days per week (35 hours). No previous internship or work experience required. Performance will be measured based on the eagerness to learn, timely delivery and quality of results. Bi-Monthly feedback and performance reviews will be provided by the supervisor. Responsibilities: 1. Performs qualitative and quantitative data analytics of human resources data for reporting to senior management, departments, offices, and missions 2. Cleans and organizes raw data, uses descriptive statistics to get a big-picture view of the data, analyzes trends found, creates visualizations of workforce data; 3. Prepares presentations and other forms of communications; creates digital graphic designs using relevant data visualization software 4. Supports innovation projects by creating lightweight prototypes, demos, and data visualizations to show the usefulness of the project and communicates value to stakeholders 5. Simplify complex datasets into accessible and innovative visualizations, ensuring clear communication of insights to stakeholders. 6. Engage in creative thinking and constructive critique in team brainstorming sessions to refine and innovate on project ideas.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work.experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Additional Information

Shortlisted candidates will receive a dataset related to human resources or workforce analytics. Candidates will be asked to perform specific tasks such as cleaning and organizing the data, performing descriptive and inferential statistical analysis, and creating visualizations to present their findings. Candidates with the most compelling case study submissions will be invited to an interview. The interview will focus on discussing their case study approach, understanding their problem-solving and analytical skills, and assessing their fit with the team and organizational culture. Based on the case study performance and interview, the potential candidate will be selected for the internship. Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For in-person internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant visa status (such as F-1 or J-1 visa), will be required to obtain a G-4 visa for a full-time (at least 35 hours per week) internship. Candidates who are on a non-immigrant visa status as students such as F-1 or J-1 visa with an employment authorization will only be able to intern on a part-time basis.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
