This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Placing women's rights at the centre of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world.

Under the overall supervision of the HR Business Partner and day to day guidance of the Human Resource Associate, the HR UN Volunteer provides support to HR related services to UNWOMEN RO ensuring high quality of work, accurate, timely and properly recorded/documented service delivery. The UNV promotes a client oriented and consistent with rules and regulations approach in the Unit. The scope of the assignment is to provide HR and administration support for the UN Women Regional Office focusing on the following:

  1. Development, review and implementation of new HR strategies and policies: • Support the development of new policies, create summaries and presentations for training sessions with RO and CO personnel; • Accurately support capture, update the HR policies and initiatives and share in a timely manner as needed; • Review and timely respond to queries or concerns in response to the rollout of new Global/Regional HR policies and initiatives i.e. UN Reform, Disability Inclusion, Staff Well-Being.

  2. Provide HR administrative and logistical service support in full compliance with UN Women rules, regulations, and HR policies and guidelines: • Support process, draft, edit, proofread and finalize for approval a variety of HR related correspondence and communications; • Regional support in implementing recruitment processes including unit assistance with candidates screening; • Provide logistical support to recruitments- Prepare assessment/support facilitate written exams, provide information and support to applicants; provide logistical support to recruitment panels, prepare and interview documents and compile interview reports; • Facilitate background checks and support prepare documentation for submissions to Compliance Review Board (CRB); • Draft recruitment correspondence as applicable and when requested; • Regular update of the RO roster of experts; • Unit support in data/records maintenance ensuring ease of access and timely monitor-ing of deadlines; • Assist in organization and facilitation of respective unit meetings and activities.

  3. Support knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the Regional office: • Support in conducting and coordinating data collection for UN-related surveys; • Asist in data collection, research, making recommendations and report compilation for new HR policies implementation; • Assist in tracking recruitment processes and providing a monthly report to HQ; • Assist in organizing and participation in the office trainings for the operations/projects staff on HR; • Provide inputs and support in identifying suitable unconscious bias trainings focused on the new HR initiatives; • Contribution to knowledge networks and communities of practice.

  4. Other tasks: • Undertake any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor or as advised by the HR Associate; • Provide back up to the HR Business Partner or HR Associate, when required.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

human resource management and administration. • Solid experience in administering and executing HR administrative processes, transactions, recruitment and selection at the National or International level; • Strong knowledge of the HR processes and policies; • Knowledge of UN Human Resource rules and Regulations will be an asset; • Ability to perform a variety of specialized activities related to HR management, contract management and reporting; • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and experience in handling of web-based management systems • Strong IT skills; • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills; • Responds positively to critical feedback and differing points of view and is self-aware; • Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements; • Strong analytical skills.

Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and banking services and educational facilities are readily available. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN HABITAT and UNEP.

The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing security conditions at the place of assignment is modest. The topographic and climatic features of the assignment location is highland cool and warm tropical climate.
