Job Description

BACKGROUND:

The International Rescue Committee, one of the world’s largest humanitarian international NGOs, provides relief, rehabilitation, and development support to vulnerable people and communities over 30 countries. We began work in Ethiopia in 2000 in response to severe drought in Ethiopia’s Somali region and are currently providing assistance to Ethiopians and refugees in six regions in Ethiopia, implementing emergency and development programs in health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.

Job Overview:

The position holder is responsible for implementing community-based child protection program in Deder.

The position holder will lead all aspects of the prevention and response activities of the program that include working with the community, psychosocial support activities and case management.

Major Responsibilities:

- Assist the team in the assessment of the living conditions of women children of all genders in the IDP/Returnee community centers and participate in the development of an appropriate strategy in addressing their needs. - Facilitate the involvement of children and women the community (leaders and parents) in the child-friendly space and women and girls’ wellness center and detail the progress made. - Support community leaders and government sector focal persons in the monitoring, verification, and documentation of GBV and children’s cases. - Through working with CP/CWI committees identify potential champion families for unaccompanied and separated children and GBV survivors in teamwork and with community leaders/structures. - Coordinate and facilitate positive parenting weekly sessions and GBV awareness session. - Prioritize and lead psychosocial support activities at (the Safe Healing and Learning Space (SHLS) and women and girls’ safe space (WGSS) - Work closely with the CP/CWI Officers and Assistants in the celebration of international events days and other awareness-raising sessions. - Submit weekly and monthly report to CWI/CP Assistants - Use and implement IRC CWI/CP tools.

Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and work with other CWI/CP team to enable and develop IRC programs

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

- Primary education with one year experience in similar position NGO experience is plus

Preferred experience & skills:

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as, an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications. - Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time - Strong analytic problem-solving skills - Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure - Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels. - Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.

Language Skills:

· Proficient in speaking English, Amharic, and Afan Oromo
