Org. Setting and Reporting In 2019, the UN Secretary-General launched global reform which repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the leadership of an independent UN Resident Coordinator, the Representative of the UN Secretary-General, the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System at the country level support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs. The RC promotes the normative values of the UN: gender equality and human rights, environmental sustainability and leaving no-one behind. In case of a humanitarian emergency, the Resident Coordinator takes on the additional reasonability of being appointed the Humanitarian Coordinator. In addition, the RC supports and promotes the UN's responsibilities to prevent and respond to violations of human rights and humanitarian law, including the responsibilities of UN entities and staff in this regard.

The UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) supports the Resident Coordinator (RC) to full his function as leader of the UN Country Team (UNCT) to strengthen coordination of UN operational activities and UN assistance with national priorities. Its mission is to maximize the impact of the work of the United Nations to ensure that the UN system provides collective, coherent, and integrated support to national development priorities, plans and strategies, within the framework of the 2030 Agenda and its associated Sustainable Development Goals as well as other international commitments. The RCO ensures that all UN entities engaged in a country, regardless of their physical presence, are included in UN strategic plans and analyses.

The UN Multi-Country Resident Coordinator's Office (MCO) Micronesia established in 2021, is based in Pohnpei, FSM and comprises a team of national and international staff focusing on strategic planning, joint analyses, supports joint UN operations, communications as well as partnerships and development finance. The UN MCO Micronesia oversees five Pacific Small Island Developing States (Pacific SIDS or PSIDS), namely Palau, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Marshall Islands, Nauru and Kiribati. The UN MCO Micronesia supports the realization of regional and country priorities as defined in the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2023-27) which outlines the UN's programme in the region. At the country level, the UN MCO Micronesia is represented by the United Nations Country Coordination Specialist.

The Health Intern will be based in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia and reports directly to the Head of RCO. The work includes substantive collaboration with the entire UN MCO Micronesia team as well as UN colleagues and national partners in-country. Tasks include, but are not limited to, support to UN system on health-related issues and the SDGs in line with national priorities and other functions as may be delegated by the RC and / or the Head of RCO.

This internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, if required by the division. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

The Intern will be responsible for the following: - Support reviewing and updating the current UN RCO health policies and organizational roles and responsibilities within the UN system for the five Micronesian countries (Palau, FSM, RMI, Nauru and Kiribati). - Support UN system on ensuring the five Micronesian countries have an established duty of care system in place that enables research and follow-ups with the UN examining physician. - Supporting UN internal coordination and communications related to health care issues. communication with communities and enabling community support on health issues. - Supporting sensitization and community outreach on health-related issues. - Developing country specific notes on issues related to healthcare for the five Micronesian countries. - Development of healthcare proposals and concept notes for resource mobilizations, for example for the Multidimensional Trust Fund. - Liaise and coordinate with regarding country office’s health and safety compliance. - Liaise and coordinate with appropriate units, divisions and sections internally, regarding health and safety components. - Performs other duties as required.

Allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work. Foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning. Monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary. Uses time efficiently.

Education A first-level university degree in health administration, management, social science, international relations, or a related field is required. An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in the latter areas and certification in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.

Knowledge of computers and office software packages and handling of web-based management systems is desirable. Knowledge in the Micronesian region (Palau, FSM, Marshall Islands, Nauru and Kiribati) is essential.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations secretariat.
