You have:

  • Fluency in Dari required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social work, medical training, child development, education, psychology, sociology or other relevant field
  • Relevant professional experience in human services including provision of direct services to underserved communities; minimum 1-2 years of experience working with children, families, and/or child welfare
  • Previous experience working in multi-cultural settings and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds strongly preferred
  • Comfortability collaborating with governmental agencies, educational system and community providers
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English
  • Ability to plan and coordinate events and workshops individually and within a team
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively
  • Strong digital literacy including deep familiarity with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and strong keyboard
  • Prior experience using web-based CRM and case management systems strongly preferred
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize and track large amounts of information efficiently and accurately
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration across all of IRC’s programs
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with up-to-date insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area

Job Overview

The H&W Caseworker will work under IRC Oakland’s newly launched Bright Futures project, which will provide psychosocial support to school-aged youth and young adults in Contra Costa County. The H&W Caseworker will coordinate services to ensure school-aged youth and their families are provided with school assistance, resources, and integration that will lead towards school success. This role will also be responsible for the implementation of psycho-social programing intended to support school-aged youth and young adults’ social adjustment needs and community integration, including the facilitation of workshops, support groups and community events. This position aims to take a holistic approach to supporting refugee and immigrant families and young adults through offering psychosocial workshops and support groups, school case management to navigate educational accommodations and collaboration with school counselors, attain mental health services outside of school, and light resource navigation for parents and guardians to ensure their children have the resources to succeed. The H&W Caseworker will also provide outreach and engagement, education, mental health screening, and referral services.

Major Responsibilities:

• Work with school-aged youth and their families to identify needs, create service plans, and ensure progress through following and maintaining individualized service plans

• Provide services to attain school accommodation and programs, conduct mental health screenings, provide culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health and/or other referrals, collaboration with parents, teachers and school counselors

• Provide resource navigation including community resources, assistance navigating school appointments, and external referrals to public benefits and community partners

• Create, plan, and implement creative workshop curriculums related to mental and emotional wellbeing, stress management, community support and academic success for youth and young adults

• Create, plan and implement young adult art-based events geared towards art-based therapy, psychosocial support, and community connection

• Conduct outreach to existing refugee, immigrant and asylee communities to encourage and increase participation in programming

• Develop relationships with local schools, districts, educational non-profits and ensure clients are aware of and gain access to relevant services and programs

• Travel regularly throughout the service delivery area (school visits and in-person workshops and events, agency visits, service provider visits, home visits, etc.)

• Maintain case file documentation, including clear and concise case notes and maintain internal tracking systems and data collection

• Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, trauma-informed care trainings, and fully engages as a member of the team

• Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency. Ensure that program services are provided in accordance with the quality assurance standards of the IRC and program funders

• Other related duties as assigned.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Health and Wellness Coordinator

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: Health and Wellness Caseworker will develop working relationships with internal direct service staff including Preferred Communities, Anti-Trafficking, and Health and Wellness, and Community Integration Program staff

External: Health and Wellness Caseworker will develop working relationships with other Community-Based Organizations and non-profits, service providers, schools, districts, community leaders, and other stakeholders.

Work Environment:

• A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.

• Regular travel to field sites throughout Contra Costa and Alameda Counties.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
