UNICEF is a leading humanitarian and development agency working globally for the rights of every child. Child rights begin with safe shelter, nutrition, protection from disaster and conflict and traverse the life cycle: pre-natal care for healthy births, clean water and sanitation, health care and education. UNICEF also lobbies and partners with leaders, thinkers, and policy makers to help all children realize their rights—especially the most disadvantaged.

In addition to duty station specific vaccine requirements, appointments are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the appointment. It does not apply to UN Volunteers who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their contracts.

Under the delegated authority and supervision of the Information Officer and the Chief of Child Health and Nutrition or their designated representatives, the UNV Health and Nutrition Officer (Information & Data will work on linkages across policies and interventions to ensure children's survival and thriving, performing the following tasks:

  1. Support to programme/project development and planning: • Participate in the preparation of plans and prioritization of the geographical areas most in need and in the distribution of supplies, support appropriate collection of beneficiaries’ data, liaise with health authorities to obtain the appropriate distribution plan. • Contribute to the design and preparation of CHN programme information management, including digitalization of Reach Every child/Reach Every District (RED/REC), the electronic Saude Materna e Infantil system, upSCALE, modeling population estimates, evidence-based planning data analysis system and others as identified. • Participate in the preparation of contingency and emergency response plans, including the emergency preparedness platform (EPP). • Participation in surveys and/or regular and rapid assessments to identify needs in an emergency, post-emergency recovery.

  2. Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results: • Participate in planning, monitoring of implementation, support the collection and compilation of regular programming and emergency data (Integrated Mobile Brigades-Health-Nutrition-HIV, outbreak response, etc). • Support monitoring and quality assurance of implemented activities. • Support the draft of monthly situation report, compilation of 5W (weekly and monthly) data for health and nutrition. • Support the monitoring of planned implementation of Mobile brigades providing technical support for the IPs in the utilization of reporting tools. • With support of section Information management officer, assess the quality of SISMA-reported data that is related to specific health and nutrition indicators (i.e., SAM and MAM admissions, neonatal deaths, etc), triangulate information reported and inform stakeholders for corrective measures on identified misreports.

  3. Technical and operational support to programme implementation: • Support program officers and government staff with the use of new technology advance tool for reports as required through the development of training package and user guides. • Support office colleagues on provision of data and information related to ongoing health and nutrition programmes. • Support drafting lessons learn and documentation of HIS.

  4. Networking and partnership building: • Participate in and document meetings with government counterparts and emergency preparedness and response partners. • Participate in data discussion meetings with SPS/DPS and other implementing partners (IPs).

  5. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building: • Apply and introduce innovative approaches for data gathering, data management and data/information with appropriate stakeholder including the design of data collection forms for mobile data collection, ‘real time data’. • Develop and maintain Interactive visualization interface and Dashboards portraying results of key programme indicators. • Document the process and develop guidance notes/SOPs on timely entry and update of the databases and dashboards. • Prepare a manual to maintain the dashboards and visualization tools, especially in areas of convergence. • Act as the focal point for the CHN programme in regular meetings with the Taskforce (ICT and Innovation Teams)

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day). • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Health statistics, statistics, demography, or any other related field is required, . Working with MISAU at the central and provincial levels is considered an asset. - Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. - Knowledge of at least one data analysis software such as SPSS, STATA will be an added advantage - Knowledge of Power-BI, Tableau or any other data visualization tool is an asset. - Proficiency in SQL, understanding of both relational and non-relational databases, familiarity in ETL processes. - Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, capability in data modeling, and programming. experience in languages like Python or Java. A working knowledge of QGIS or ArcGIS, R is also an advantage

- Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse organization tailoring language, tone, style, and format to match audience - Ability to empathize with client managers, supervisors and staff while advocating for consistent and equitable applications of promogulated HR regulations and rules.

Mozambique has a total population of about 29 million people and is located on the southeast coast of Africa. To the East, is the Indian Ocean, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia is to the north, to the west is Zimbabwe and South Africa and to the South, Swaziland and South Africa. The total area of Mozambique is 799 380 Km square from North to South. It is tropical hot and humid. The hottest and wettest months in Maputo are December to February, when the average daily minimum temperatures are around 22°c and the average daily highs of 30°c. The rain season is between October and April. Winters (June to August) are mild with the average daily temperature ranging from 13°c to 24°c. Basic health facilities and food are available everywhere. The security situation is reliable, but some precaution is needed at the same time. Communication and transport services are available at various costs. Regarding accommodation and food, houses and apartments can be rented from US$ 600 to US$ 1,000 per month and meals at the restaurant cost between US$ 10 and US$ 30. Food, household commodities and clothing can be found in shops and local markets at reasonable prices. An entry visa is required for all travellers and must be obtained from Mozambican Embassy prior to travelling. The metical is the local currency and exchange rate stands at USD 1 equivalent to about 62 meticais (MZM) as per July 2021. Commercial banks are operational in the country and Visa cards are accepted in hotels. Maputo is categorized as a family duty station offering a variety of different accommodation options. It has a vibrant international community whilst also providing excellent opportunities to work in a national, Mozambican context.
