JOB PURPOSE

The incumbent will lead the team managing WFP’s approach to leadership development, including the design, development and implementation of leadership development initiatives and support to managers and staff across the organization. This position requires specialized knowledge, and advanced partnership skills to design and implement the solutions and frameworks that support WFP corporate priorities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Lead WFP’s work in terms of leadership accountabilities and framework that underpins talent management decisions;
  • Ensure the leadership development programmes align with and strengthen WFP’s operations through effective collaboration and partnering with colleagues within the team, the HR Division and across the organization;
  • Pioneer WFP’s work in terms of career development guidance and tools;
  • Define the scope and objectives of a WFP leadership development approach, ensuring the designed solutions cater to leaders at all levels and roles across the organization;
  • Ensure that WFP career advancement systems are consistent, identify talent development needs and support colleagues to further enhance their leadership and people management skills, through collaborating with colleagues in the broader HR team;
  • Ensure that the induction programmes for field leaders enable a smooth and effective transition into these key roles across our operations;
  • Stay abreast of leadership development needs across the organization, and build on these to advance WFP’s corporate priorities;
  • Contribute to WFP’s organizational workplace culture initiatives, in particular by providing relevant expertise from a capability and leadership development angle, identifying alignments and opportunities for an inclusive workforce
  • Consolidate and analyze data emerging from the leadership development programmes, identifying trends/potential issues and presenting recommendations and influencing managers on topics related to leadership development;
  • Promote a Learning culture through Leadership development program;
  • Work closely with the Learning and Capability Development peers to define integrated Leadership Development programme and processes;
  • Contributing to the broader Learning and Capability Development programme of the WFP being responsible to build and roll out a Leadership Development Programme;
  • Aligning the Leadership Development programme with the Learning Governance Model;
  • Lead and empower a team of learning and development specialists, observing performance, providing coaching, training and mentorship to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance;
  • Stay relevant and up to date with market practices and trends, external networks, reinforce capabilities, credibility, and share new information with colleagues.
  • Contribute to other areas related to capability development and learning and development as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Human Resources, Organizational Development/Psychology, Leadership Development, or related field, or first university degree with additional years of related work experience or trainings/courses.

Experience:

  • At least eight years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in Human Resources, with at least five focused on leadership and management development.
  • Extensive Human Resources experience across in other areas of Human Resources, i.e. talent management, organizational development, capability development, in international contexts.
  • Significant experience in managing HR teams in large organizations.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Sound theoretical understanding of HR concepts and principles with a broad knowledge of best practices, techniques and processes and specialized knowledge of leadership development.
  • Proven knowledge and application of best practices in the fields of leadership and organizational development.
  • Hands-on experience developing and implementing leadership and talent management solutions.
  • Ability to lead, coach and motivate a large team.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to persuade, influence, negotiate with the wide range of key partners and adapt communication style to different situations.
  • Facilitation and workshop delivery skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Confidence and mental agility to assimilate different perspectives and formulate recommendations.
  • Strong initiative-taker and proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

Language: Proficiency (level C) in English language and intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Non-Rotational Nature: mobility is and continues to be a core contractual requirement in WFP. This position is however classified as “non-rotational” which means the incumbent shall not be subject to the regular reassignment process unless the position is reclassified as rotational.

WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package, including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days’ annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, pension plan and medical insurance.
