This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations established in 1948. The objective of WHO is to attain the highest possible level of health for all people. WHO achieves its goals by performing its essential functions: 1. Take leadership in crucial health issues and create partnerships when joint action is needed; 2. Set research priorities and encourage acquiring, applying, and disseminating valuable knowledge; 3. Setting standards and criteria and promoting and monitoring them; 4. Develop ethical and evidence-based policies 5. Provide technical support, be an agent of change and sustainably build institutional capacity; 6. Monitor health status and assess health trends.

In the context of WHO’s 13th General Programme of Work (GPW) and its triple-billion strategy, the Associate Communications Officer will support the WHO Angola office to boost communication initiatives, ensure more significant support for the programs, aiming at reaching three billion, and improve reputation, credibility, and resource mobilisation.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Communication Officer or their designated mandated representative(s), the Graphic Designer Officer will:

• Design and generate creative and original content to grow and increase WHO's presence on digital platforms • Produce engaging visual content, including high-quality pictures and short, exciting videos to promote WHO programs and health subjects • Design digital content such as banners, infographics, and visual content on key health subjects • Preparing the design of crucial advocacy materials and documents, including presentations, reports for publication, newsletters, brochures, flyers, invitations, posters, and creative infographics that reflect WHO results • Assist with the design of innovative digital and social media assets for daily publication • Ensure photo and video coverage of all WHO events and field activities, whether for print, multi-media, and online formats • Assist in establishing and be responsible for maintaining a photo and video archive • Produce materials for websites and TV, including short documentaries, interviews, animation, coverage, etc; • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities during their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and actively participating in UNV activities (for instance, in events that mark International Volunteer Day). • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and local volunteerism in the host country. • Provide annual and end-of-assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results, and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organisations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever possible.

• Improved the organisation’s high-quality content production for both printing and digital platforms • Promoted more excellent health information on printing and digital platforms through images and graphic content • Increased production and dissemination of content on WHO programs in Angola • Increased the production of graphic qualitative content on the WHO program and intervention for visibility • Significantly improved the production of high-quality videos and photon on WHO programs and health topics • Improved dissemination of quality graphic information on crucial health topics • Ensured a powerful and organised WHO Angola images and creative content archive

graphic design, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media either at the national or international level. • Have completed a degree of studies in communications (bachelor's level or equivalent), technologies, or IT at a university or equal institution before commencing the assignment or have recently graduated in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. • Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of online dissemination of information via social media mechanisms and the web. • Fluency in using Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint . Proficiency in editing software, including the Adobe suite and video editing software • A strong eye for visual composition. • Effective time management skills, working with minimum supervision and meeting deadlines. • Thoroughly understand the impact of communications on an organisation's reputation, image, and success, as well as the role of the web and social media in this regard.
• Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, and reporting skills. • Accuracy and professionalism are essential in document production and editing. • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organisations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development. • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel. • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with graphic artistic programs, social media management, database management, and office technology equipment.

Note on novel coronavirus – COVID-19. The rapidly changing nature of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 has placed significant and increasing restrictions on the freedom of movement of people, even within countries. Such limits may affect the ability of UN Volunteers to begin their assignments at their assigned duty station or limit their ability to enter UN premises. Thus, UNV cannot guarantee that posted terms will proceed as usual. Candusual for UN Volunteer assignments requiring travel to the duty station may be exceptionally granted during this period, as well as alternative working arrangements to work from their place of recruitment until restrictions are lifted. Candidates for UN Volunteer assignments may also need to work remotely in cases where access to UN premises is restricted. These are decisions at the discretion of the host entity. Candidates proceeding to the interview are recommended to discuss travel requirements, questions, and possible alternative arrangements with the host entity. If selected, candidates should carefully consider the circumstances before accepting UNV’s offer.

The contract lasts for the period indicated above, with the possibility of extensions subject to the availability of funding, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. Travel to the duty station (if applicable), and a Settling-In-Grant will be provided if the duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment. The applicable Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and average living expenses. Life, health, and permanent disability insurance are included (for up to 3 dependents), as well as patriation (if applicable) and resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. Furthermore, in non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) will be provided monthly.
