The United Nations in Sri Lanka (UNSL) is committed to supporting Sri Lanka’s achievement of the 2030 Agenda, human rights, and peace and security through its Agencies, Funds and Programmes (AFPs) in-country. As part of this commitment, the Office of the Resident Coordinator (RCO) is tasked with producing high-quality communications products for variety of audiences, drawing from the collective activities of the UN Country Team. The UN in Sri Lanka’s Country Results Reports highlight how the UN remained steadfast to the national development priorities articulated in the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) assignment is supporting in creation of the 2024 UNSL Annual results report, SDG Fund Annual Report 2024, 9 policy briefs and associated social media design templates enables to reach out to a wider audience.

Under the overall guidance of the Head of RCO, and the direct supervision of the Communications Officer and Partnership Officer, in close consultation with the Data, Results Monitoring, and Reporting Officer, the consultant will be responsible for the design, layout, and production of communication materials, including: • Reports (in line with UNCT reporting guidelines): o Design the 2024 UN Annual Results Report o SDG Fund Annual Report 2024 • Policy Briefs o Develop nine (9) visually engaging policy briefs using a cohesive and professional design style. • Social Media Templates: o Create a suite of branded, user-friendly templates for use in social media outreach campaigns. Design Process: o Propose three design concepts for the reports, from which the RCO team will select the preferred design. o Ensure appropriate placement of visual elements such as maps, infographics, pie charts, tables, and call-out boxes, following feedback from the RCO team. o Adapt designs to different formats for online and print use. • Compliance: o Ensure adherence to UN branding guidelines, ensuring reports and briefs are accessible, engaging, and appropriate for a diverse audience. o Incorporate revisions based on feedback from relevant stakeholders. o The final products will be shared with a wide audience, including partners, national counterparts, and the public, both in digital and print formats.

o Proven graphic designing experience. o A strong portfolio of illustrations or other graphics. o Familiarity with Canva design software. o A keen eye for aesthetics and details. o Excellent communication skills. o Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel. o Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines. o Familiarity with UN branding and reporting standards. o Experience working with development organizations or on large-scale reports. o A degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field. o Professional experience in document and publication design, including previous work producing high-quality reports, infographics, and layouts for organizations. o Proficiency in design software and platforms (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva). o Strong data visualization skills and experience in developing interactive online reports. o Excellent verbal and written communication skills. o Working knowledge of Sinhala or Tamil is required.

Colombo is situated in the Western Province of Sri Lanka and is the commercial capital of the country. The city is located on the west coast of the island, adjacent to the administrative capital, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte. Bandaranaike International Airport is located 35km from Colombo and is served by the main international airlines. Sri Lanka is a tropical country with moderate temperate and high humidity all throughout the year. Average temperature in Colombo ranges between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius. The island experiences two main monsoon seasons, where heavy rainfalls occur, from May to August and October to January. Sri Lankan food is characterized by fragrant spices, all forms of coconut, and rice. Rice and curry are the main dishes. Sri Lankan cuisine tends to be quite spicy. There are hotels and other types of accommodation options available in Colombo. Supermarkets, banking and medical facilities are present within the city. Telephone and Internet service is widely available. Phone plans and data are inexpensive; however, you should not expect internet service to work consistently or at high speed. At present Sri Lanka is undergoing high inflation and an economic crisis. T public unrest and protests are common. The prices of common commodities fluctuate regularly, and shortages can also be experienced. Sri Lanka became a member of the United Nations on 14 December 1955.
