Following the Cyclone Ditwah catastrophe in Sri Lanka, the National Disaster Relief Services Centre (NDRSC) is coordinating emergency relief and response efforts across affected regions. Accurate and timely data collection, analysis, and dissemination are critical to ensure effective coordination among stakeholders and equitable distribution of resources. The volunteer will support the NDRSC at national level and in district levels (25 districts) in managing emergency relief and response data, ensuring that information flows efficiently between field teams, headquarters, and external stakeholders including other Government Ministries/Departments, I/NGOs and UN Agencies. This role will contribute to informed decision-making and improved coordination during the disaster response phase.

This UN Volunteer will directly report to Programme Officer (DRR & Climate change) and the National Disaster Relief Services Centre - Relief Officer at the District Secretariat • Data Collection & Management: Gather data from hotline, field teams, partner organizations, and other sources on relief activities, needs assessments, and resource distribution. Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and timely entry into relevant systems or databases. Follow up of relief requests through hotline.

• Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze collected data to identify gaps, trends, and priority needs. Prepare summary reports for internal and external stakeholders.

• Information Dissemination: Distribute verified data and reports to relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and donors, with permission from the Assistant Secretary to the NDRSC. Maintain updated situation reports and ensure alignment with official communication protocols.

• Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with multiple stakeholders (government, humanitarian partners, local authorities, private sector) to harmonize data collection and reporting standards. Participate in coordination meetings and provide data-driven inputs.

• Compliance & Confidentiality: Adhere to data protection and confidentiality guidelines. Ensure compliance with agency policies and humanitarian standards.

Colombo is situated on the Western Province of Sri Lanka and is the commercial capital of the country. Colombo is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to the administrative capital, Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte. The climate is fairly temperate all throughout the year, but humidity is usually high. From March to April the temperature averages around 31 degrees Celsius (88 degrees Fahrenheit). The only major change in the Colombo weather occurs during the monsoon seasons from May to August and October to January when heavy rainfalls occur. Sri Lanka became a member of the United Nations on 14 December 1955.
