Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

UNAIDS is guided by a Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) that includes representatives from 22 governments across all geographic regions, UNAIDS Cosponsors, and five representatives from nongovernmental organizations, including associations of people living with HIV.

For its mid-year session, the PCB receives, among other documents, a people management strategic update supported by the “People of UNAIDS” brochure. This brochure includes staff and affiliate workforce data, presented in a reader-friendly and appealing manner. In 2025, the PCB session will be held from 24-26 June, and final documents must be submitted by early May.

By supporting UNAIDS HR Operations team in this project, the online volunteer will gain valuable experience in designing professional layouts and formatting for brochures, enhancing their skills in creating visually engaging and accessible documents. The volunteer will learn to develop and integrate visual elements such as icons, illustrations, and graphics to simplify complex concepts, while adhering to branding guidelines and ensuring alignment with the organization's visual identity.

Additionally, the volunteer will improve their ability to collaborate with UNAIDS HR team, incorporate feedback, and support in delivering the final document. This opportunity will also provide valuable hands-on experience with standard design software, such as Adobe InDesign, and the chance to contribute to a meaningful cause by supporting UNAIDS' mission.

Furthermore, the volunteer will gain insights into UNAIDS activities and the PCB (Programme Coordinating Board), enriching their understanding of global health initiatives and the impact of UNAIDS' work.

Under the guidance of the HR Operation's project lead, the volunteer will support the project's activities including:

  • Designing the overall layout of the June 2025 PCB “People of UNAIDS” brochure to enhance readability and engagement.

  • Ensuring professional formatting of text, tables, images, and infographics.

  • Developing visual elements such as icons, illustrations, and graphics to simplify complex concepts.

  • Applying UNAIDS branding guidelines to ensure alignment with the official visual identity.

  • Enhancing accessibility through a structured and user-friendly design, making information easy to navigate.

  • Assisting in providing the final document in required formats, such as PDF for digital use and print-ready files.

  • Supporting the provision of the original graphic files of the final document (InDesign package).

The UNAIDS brochure will consist of approximately 21 pages plus cover and back, featuring 23-27 graphs accompanied by short narrative paragraphs. The support work involves creating these graphs and integrating them into the layout. The process follows a feedback cycle where initial data files and narratives are provided for revision. The workload is concentrated around revision and approval phases rather than daily tasks.

  • At least three years of experience in graphic design, with a focus on report and booklet design.
  • Fluent proficiency in English to ensure precise text formatting and typography.
  • Strong expertise in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Experience working with NGOs, UN agencies, or international organizations is a plus.
  • A keen eye for typography, branding, and visual storytelling.
