Established by General Assembly Resolution 2186 (XXI), the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) operates as an autonomous organization of the United Nations. UNCDF supports developing countries, particularly least developed countries, by complementing existing sources of capital assistance through grants, loans and guarantees. Its vision is to mobilize and catalyse increased capital flows for SDG-impactful investments in Member States, helping address pressing development challenges faced by vulnerable communities while contributing to sustainable economic growth and equitable prosperity. UNCDF uses its unique UN mandate to deploy catalytic capital and financial instruments that crowd in additional finance and scale development impact. Its work focuses where needs are greatest, reflecting its investment mandate to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Doha Programme of Action for least developed countries, 2022–2031. Under its Strategic Framework, UNCDF responds to Member State requests by providing targeted technical and financial advisory services, designing tailored financial structuring solutions, de-risking investments and strengthening the investment readiness of SDG-aligned projects. Working with the private sector, UN organizations, international and local financial institutions, development finance institutions, foundations and philanthropy, UNCDF helps develop local financial systems, build new markets and mobilize capital from public and private sources. Its partnership-driven approach enables UNCDF to deploy capital capabilities in flexible and responsive ways, positioning it as a preferred partner for impactful investment. Following a recent restructuring, UNCDF’s organizational structure includes the Investment and Implementation Division, Investment and Finance Oversight Division, Operations and Oversight Division, and the Directorate of the Executive Office. UNCDF personnel are based in regional hubs in Dakar, Nairobi and Bangkok, with sub-regional presence in the Caribbean and Pacific. UNCDF is led by an Executive Secretary based in New York. In line with General Assembly resolution 2321 (XXII), the UNDP Administrator performs the function of Managing Director of UNCDF, and the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS oversees UNCDF. Within the Directorate, the Regional Communication and Advocacy Specialist supports the UNCDF East and Southern Africa and Arab States Regional Office and works with the Strategic Communications Team to strengthen UNCDF’s internal and external positioning. The role contributes to brand visibility, thought leadership and strategic advocacy by leading the development, harmonization and amplification of communication activities and deliverables aligned with UNCDF’s business strategy, priority areas and forthcoming Strategic Framework.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Regional Communication and Advocacy Specialist for the East and Southern Africa Region or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the online Graphic Designer will provide graphic design and layout support for reports and other knowledge products developed under the Tanzania Inclusive Digital Economies (TIDE) programme ensuring full compliance with UNCDF branding and visual identity guidelines.

The volunteer will be responsible for the following tasks: • Design and layout various reports for the TIDE project, applying UNCDF brand guidelines, templates, and visual standards consistently across all sections. • Transform approved written content, data, tables, and figures into clear, professional, and visually coherent report layouts. • Develop and refine visual elements, including charts, tables, infographics, icons, and other graphical components, to enhance data presentation and readability. • Execute document layout, formatting, and design revisions based on feedback from UNCDF technical and communications teams. • Review draft and final layouts and propose design improvements to strengthen clarity, consistency, and overall visual quality. • Manage the design process from initial concept to final delivery of print-ready and web-optimized versions of the report. • Prepare final files in accordance with UNCDF technical specifications for printing and digital dissemination. • Ensure a high standard of quality assurance, including accurate formatting, alignment, and typographical consistency, with a strong emphasis on error prevention. • Organize and maintain design files and versions in line with UNCDF file management and archiving practices. • Maintain regular communication with UNCDF regional comms lead to ensure alignment on design expectations, timelines, and deliverables. The volunteer is expected to deliver these services in a timely manner and as stated in this description of action, focusing exclusively on graphic design and layout support for the assignment.

Education:

Required Education Level: Bachelor's degree Required Experience: 1 years

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Multimedia Design, Communication Design, or a related field. • At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in Digital and Financial literacy, Economic resilience, gender equality, digital financial inclusion, digital transformation, blue and green finance or other relevant programmes; experience with development communication is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization:

Competencies and attitude:

• Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite - MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Design Expertise: Intermediate proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Canva and Powerpoint is required, with a grasp of typography, color theory, composition, and layout design. • Familiarity with Adobe After Effects or other animation tools for motion graphics is an additional asset. • Have a keen interest and/or a strong desire to learn about: development finance, investments, and the implementation of Agenda 2030. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to craft clear, concise, and engaging content is desirable. • Proactively communicate with team members, incorporate feedback, and maintain professional relationships with various stakeholders. • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment. • Interest and motivation in working in an international organization. • Good analytical skills in gathering and consolidating data and research for practical implementation. • Initiative-taking person with a goal-oriented mindset. • Communicates effectively when working in teams and autonomously. • Good in organizing and structuring various tasks and responsibilities. • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability. • Responds positively to feedback and differing points of view. • Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude.
