Context

NRC aims to ensure that children and youth affected by displacement enjoy quality education that is relevant to their psychosocial, emotional and cognitive development, across all phases of displacement. We provide opportunities for school-aged children (6 to 18 years old) to complete a full cycle of basic education, and diverse learning pathways across the education continuum for youth (15 to 24 years old). Our core target group consists of children and youth who are out of school or have had their education interrupted.

We are looking for an experienced humanitarian with a strategic mindset, a global perspective, strong technical background with the Education Core Competence to provide expert support for the CC.

What you will do

As our Global Education Specialist, you will be our global expert within the Education Core Competency. You will also be responsible for;

  • Country office start-up: Contribute to the strategic positioning of NRC through an adequate and high quality Education programme response in the establishing phase of new country operations.
  • Core competence pilots: Responsible for the identification of pilot projects for the further development of the Education core competency. Contribute to the communication of results and the development of recommendations.
  • Program development projects: Responsible for the management of assigned program development projects including the spending of earmarked funds and reporting requirements
  • Better Learning Programme (BLP): Responsible for providing technical guidance and advise to the BLP Unit, responsible for NRC’s classroom based psychosocial support programme

What you will bring

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant Manager/Adviser experience within the CC in the humanitarian field;
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts;
  • Professional and documented knowledge in CC;
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Experience in drafting and encouraging implementation of policy/strategic guidance, and developing practical tools and resources;
  • Experience with engaging with key humanitarian stakeholders;
  • Able to represent the organisation at a strategic level, and contribute to global policy development with key donors and stakeholders;
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal and preferably a second NRC language (French/ Spanish/ Arabic).

Whom you will work with

You will join our colleagues in Head Office and be part of the Global Core Competency - Education team led by the Global Education Lead. The team is part of the Programme Policy and Development (PPD) unit under the Global Programme Section. The PPD unit sets NRC’s programme policy, develops accompanying strategies, and provides the required guidance that enables NRC to implement quality humanitarian assistance. To ensure that NRC is a leading displacement organization the PPDU continuously explores new areas, fosters knowledge and learning, and is NRC’s programme face to the global humanitarian community.
