The Europe and Central Asia Regional Office (ECARO) is implementing the organization-wide Digital Workplace Project, which requires migration of existing content to a new digital platform and creation of new sites. This process provides a valuable opportunity for rationalizing the knowledge management systems across regional and country offices.

As part of the Enterprise Content Management roll-out plan, a new communication page will be set-up as the new intranet platform for ECARO with key guidelines, documents and knowledge resources around the regional office annual priorities. Collaboration sites will also be developed for ECARO team-working and sharing.

Under the CPD preparation process, a situation analysis site will be set-up to bring together data from the analysis that come from a variety of sources. This site will contain the summary of findings and recommendations from the situation analysis to easily access information for policy and programme work.

How can you make a difference?

Under the guidance and supervision of the Knowledge Management Specialist in UNICEFs’ Regional Office, the intern will provide support to activities undertaken within the framework of the current Programme, Planning and Data Section Work Plan. The following section will describe the tasks that the intern is expected to contribute to.

Main Tasks

  • Provide technical support to the team in optimizing the use of information management tools.
  • In coordination with ICT colleagues, supports the organization and delivery or webinars and trainings on key KM uses of UNICEF technology, platforms, and resources.
  • Support the set-up of dedicated internal / ternal sites that will bring together data and analysis on children’s rights. The site should be updated as new data set become available. Main components include data, summary analysis, dashboards, links.
  • Contribute to the set-up of collaboration sites in SharePoint by creating pages, links to other relevant resources, and supporting content migration of working files.
  • Test and maintain the functionality of interactive features of the sites.
  • Gather data and prepare reports on usage of the sites.
  • Develop and maintain data visualization projects in PowerBI / Infogram / Tableau.

Conditions of Service

Modality: Full time (the assignment may start remotely and later office-base if conditions permit)

Stipend: In accordance to UNICEF's guidelines, interns will be paid a nominal stipend per month. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Travel: Travel costs to and from the duty station can be reimbursed up to a certain amount according to UNICEF's guidelines. Intern is responsible for obtaining the necessary entry visa and arranging their travel to Geneva. UNICEF will assist only in issuing documents required in visa processing (Note Verbale).

Insurance: UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern's service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan with at least 2-month coverage in Geneva prior to starting his/her internship. Interns are subject to Swiss Law on Medical Insurance (LAMal) and will be required to enroll into a swiss insurance under LAMal scheme as soon as they receive their Legitimation Card or to request an exemption from LAMal office provided that their insurance is equivalent to an insurance under LAMal scheme. More details will be communicated to a selected candidate in due time.

Education requirements

  • Completed undergraduate or enrolled in graduate studies (or have graduated within the past two years) in the following areas: communication, education, development studies or a related field.
  • Have strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Excellent use of web development and design tools such as SharePoint. Willingness to learn new software will be key to the selection of the candidate.
  • Experience with visualization tools preferred (PowerBI, Infogram or other).
  • Effective communication skills, excellent written English skills and ability to write clearly and succinctly.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of humanitarian response and development programmes is an asset.

Eligibility

To be considered for an internship with UNICEF, applicants must meet the following general requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years (please refer to required skills and experience for more details)
  • Be proficient in at least one of UNICEF's working languages (please refer to Language requirements).
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.
