You have:
- A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in translation, précis-writing, editing, self-revision, verbatim reporting, copy preparing, proofreading or production editing is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in translating and/or reviewing translations from English to French is required.
- Experience in translating legal texts and with legal taxonomy is required.
- Fluency in oral and written English is required.
- Fluency in oral and written French is required.
Result of Service An organized and updated set of case law summaries in French, presenting a high standard of terminological and grammatical accuracy. These materials will be made available on the new online accessible jurisprudence database, which is under development.

Duties and Responsibilities This position is located in the Office of the Executive Director, Office of Administration of Justice (OAJ), in New York. OAJ is an independent office responsible for the overall coordination of the formal system of administration of justice and contributing to its functioning in a fair, transparent, and efficient manner. In this regard, the Office provides substantive, technical and administrative support to the United Nations Dispute Tribunal and the United Nations Appeals Tribunal through their Registries; assists staff members and their representatives in pursuing claims and appeals through the Office of Staff Legal Assistance; and provides assistance, as appropriate, to the Internal Justice Council. The incumbent reports directly to the Executive Director.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the individual Contractor will perform the following duties:
- Prepare translations of legal case law summaries from English to French.
- Review automatically generated translations for accuracy and terminological correctness.
- Support the development of an online-based jurisprudence database in all aspects related to the French language.
- Support the creation of a taxonomy of legal metadata in French.
- Input the results of translations directly into the new jurisprudence database utilizing a content management system.
- Consolidate the legal terminology utilized in French translations.
Perform other related linguistic and special assignments as required.
Qualifications/special skills A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status is required.
